Gene's Story
Life
I was the kid who seemed to never take anything seriously. Things have changed for me now. I spent most of my childhood in Rutland. I went to Rutland High from 1975 to 1977. While there I got involved with some real losers and got heavily into drugs and trouble. I finished high school in Burlington at Rock Point High School; a home for kids who have had a bad break in life. I got off the drugs and back in school and have met my goal of earning a Master of Divinity degree. I am married (25 years so far). I am living in North Carolina. My wife is a Lt. Commander in the Public Health Service working as a Nurse in a Federal Prison. I preach for a small church in NC. It is challenging yet very rewarding. I have finally found something I truly love to do. To God be the glory...
School
I enjoyed High School for the most part and was inspired mostly by Russell Ellis. He was always a selfless person who really cared about teens who had a bad break in life. Had a lot of good times with sev...Expand for more
eral of the gang. I enjoyed the activities and sports especially hiking and camping with Steve Hyde and the weekend staff that was lovingly called Burt. It was a turning point in my life. The teachers and staff really seemed to care and it helped me in the long run.
College
My college experience was really good. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible/ Ministry in 2004 graduating with high honors. My graduate work was very challenging and I am happy to be putting it to good use. I would not trade this experience for anything in the world. I have finished the Graduate level with a Master of Divinity in Ministerial Leadership (75 hrs.
Military
My military experience was a big mistake. I hated it and could not wait to get out. I was too immature and young for that experience and should have waited a couple more years. I did travel a lot and went all over Europe, Caribbean and Mediterranean. Had some good times however; my C.O and X.O were not very good and made life difficult for everyone
