Life
My professional employment before retirement
I managed and lead 40 to 50+ Engineers, Software Specialists and technicians In an Engineering Flight Test Organization, my group was the Airborne Instrumentation and Telemetry Group at Boeing Rotorcraft In Mesa, AZ. However this group includes Personnel at Test Facilities at Philadelphia, PA., Pax River Maryland,West Palm Beach, FL, Edwards AFB, CA and other sites as required for Helicopter Test Programs. Other experience at this location includes two previous companies including Hughes Helicopters absorbed by McDonnell Douglas and then McDonnell Douglas bought by Big Daddy Boeing.
This adventure started in 1981 my initial position was Flight Test Engineer, Next, was Project Engineer on Advanced Flight Control Projects, Moving on to Establish and Manage the New advanced Flight Controls Lab as well as the Avionics Development Lab. Assignment that I have been in the last ten years is Manager of Flight Test Instrumentation and Flight Analysis group.
Previous seventeen years 1963 through 1981 were at Bell Helicopter Textron beginning as an Instrumentation Technician, Flight Analyst And Research Project manager. Worked Various research flight projects as well as most models of Bell Helicopters that were developed and certified in the years of my tenure at Bell.
Interspersed with these years at Bell, Hughes-McDonnell Douglas-Boeing I have particpated in professional Organizations such as American Helicopter Society (holding offices at Local and National level, still participating in those),Society of Flight Test Engineers (local offices), HAI, Helicopter Association International )(on Technical Committee, and safety committee) ...Expand for more
and several Military support organizations AAAA Army Aviation Assoc, AUSA Assoc of US Army. These are interesting and informative organizations and I have done volunteer work for the Helicopter and Flt Test Orgs for Many Years. 44 years with great professionals.
My favorite saying after all of these years of arising before Daylight for early morning flights and hunting various game is: If you are going to Fly with The Eagles you can't hoot with the Owls. I Continue to work as a consultant as it is interesting and challenging plus lots of interesting flying hardware and test equipment. I retired from Boeing Rotorcraft March 1st, 2005. I am still active in the helicopter industry being involved with HAI (Helicopter Assoc Intl) technical committee, Safety Committee and UPAC committee, AHS (American Helicopter Society) National Board of Directors and advanced Vertical Lift Committee..
Also recently inducted into the Twirlybirds an organization of helicopter pilots and helicopter industry pioneers.
Became a member of another safety organization in 2018, USHST, United States Helicopter
Safety Team). Mission is to reduce civil helicopter accidents in the U.S .
Also consulting with several small companies Plus one big one L-3Com Integrated Systems In Waco, TX and New Mexico State University (Physical Sciences Lab).
Consulting for Conklin de Decker Supporting their Helicopter Data Base Comparator Program.
Continuing hobbies as mentioned in bio listing. Now Live in Fredericksburg, Texas a little German Community and tourist town in the Texas Hill and Wine country 75 miles NW of San Antonio.
