Geneva's Story
Life
I'm still as unconventional as I ever was, but with a touch of temperance (aging).
I love a good laugh and hate a bad whiner.
I'm not used to stress-free living, so without nicotine and caffeine, I'd probably collapse.
I've gained more pounds than any body has to right to have on its backside - the curse of the Nau women.
I avoid Jetmore because I'm not proud of my misspent youth.
I still think less of people I knew as a teenager b/c they thought more of themselves than others.
I plan to finish my volunteer hours (1000) and head off to the Peace Corp in my retirement. Preferrably the South Pacific if global warming hasn't sunk the islands by then.
I'm a secondary language arts instructor in the alternative education realm where our students are the type which we've trained to do "take-downs" on if they get too violent. I LOVE it and each day is a challenging stress, but it fulfills my need to be needed. How pathetic is that?
I'm done with this.
Workplace
I work as a secondary language arts instructor in the alternative education realm.
I enjoy being one of the individuals who refuse to give up on children that o...Expand for more
thers in the education field believe are lost souls or not worth the effort.
My students range from the mentally ill to violent/sex offenders to teen pg moms to foster children to the average child with a messed up home-life.
Each day brings new challenges or new successes. I believe that no child is beyond success and that each child has open doorways to a postive future.
I lack patience with others who disrespect the differences in fellow humankind. I am intolerant of the intolerant. I visualize the good in others as a means of keeping the faith in the good in myself.
I believe that good people do bad things and these "bad things" don't make "Bad people." A vast canyon stretches between behavior and the person. We can not like behavior while we love the person. It's the ability to love one another that sets humankind apart from the beasts in the jungles.
Military
I completed boot camp at Ft. Jackson, SC, in summer of 1982.
I returned to Ks as part of the 410 EVAC unit, based at FHSU for the next 6 years.
I was honorably discharged in January 1990, only days before my unit went to Bahrain for the first Persian Gulf War.
