George's Story
Good to see everyone who came to reunion.
The second decade of the 21st century has been rough. I got Covid in Jan 2020, which led to me getting HPV throat cancer. I had surgery in July 2020, but the cancer returned by early 2021.
I went through radiation and chemo last fall and the actual 7 weeks of treatment were a breeze. Then 4-5 days after it ended, it kicked my butt. I spent 4+ months in bed. Never been so weak in my life; couldn't get out of bed without help for nearly two months.
Still have no salivary function, so I have a constant, severe dry mouth making swallowing food impossible. I eat everything through a tube in my stomach! I can drink a few things, but very few things taste good after they've b...Expand for more
een pureed! I'd kill to have a burger, a salad or even just something like green beans.
The latest, as of July, '23, is the cancer has spread to my liver. In the middle of determining possible treatments & learning prognosis. Will know more in 4-5 wks.
So far, doesn't look good. In '20 & '22, there was lots of urgency to make appts & start treatment. This time, not so much; wks before appts, biopsy in April, no treatment plan, yet.
Feel good, no symptoms; working hard 7-8 hrs, every day, on my house & remodeling my shop. Trying to regain my strength & stamina. Don't feel like I'm pushin' 70 or that I have liver cancer.
We'll see what the future brings.
