George E.'s Story
Life
After graduation, I attended Aurora College one year, on a scholarship I was awarded for making it into the top quarter of my class, after which I enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years. I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Az. I was trained as a medical service specialist. I was honorably discharged in June, 1966. I returned to Aurora to buy a '58 Nash Rambler, and headed for Kankakee to get better acquainted with the girl I thought I was going to marry, but She decided to decline my proposal. Then I entered the U. of I. College of Pharmacy. My 2 1/2 years there turned into another disaster! So, using what the Air Force taught me, I was accepted at Ill. Masonic Med. Center School of Nursing, where I met the young woman who became my best friend and, on Nov. 24, 1973, my wife. We stayed in chicago for six months and then moved to her hometown of Lansing Ill. In 1976, we bought our first home in Sauk Village, Ill. I worked as a staff and private duty nurse in quite a few Chicago and Suburban hospitals for various nursing registries and on staff, before finally settling down at Tinley Park Mental Health Center, in Tinley Park, Ill, where Donna has been promoted to an administra...Expand for more
tive position. I remained a staff nurse. In 1989, we moved across the street to a bigger house, where our twins(born in Nov. 1981)could have more room to play. In Oct. 1998, I was injured by a patient and was disabled. I'm now a house-husband. Donna and I have made a career move back to Tucson. The twins, Carrie Elizabeth, and Paul Edward graduated from high school in the Spring of 2000. In 2003, we moved across country to Green Valley, Arizona, where we had a house built for us. Carrie is enrolled at Pima County College this year. Paul is disabled and is living with us here at home. Carrie is living in an appartment in North Tucson, AZ.
Donna is working at a local hospital in Tucson, and Paul is working at a local grocery supermarket here in Green Valley. I, of course am continuing in my role of house husband. In Feb. 2006, Donna had one of her knees replaced, and in June, 2007, she had the otherone replaced. Last Christmas, I got sick with burst diverticulum and peritonitis. I had to have emergency surgery to remove part of my bowel, and also had to have a colostomy. Then in May I had another surgery to put my bowel back together. We're both on the mend from our respective surgeries.
