George's Story
Life
I live in Albany, NY with my wife Marcia. We have 3 grown children, Sherri, Shawn and Steve and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric. All 3 of our children are relatively local, Sherri and her husband Mike live in the small rural town about 40 minutes away. and each work for a part of St. Peter's Health Partners here in the Capital District. Son Shawn lives about 20 minutes north of us and works from home, and son Steve lives only about 10 minutes away and works with a bathroom and tile firm here in Albany. Oh and I can't forget to mention Marcia and I have a cute 2-year-old goldendoodle named Coco.
Granddaughter Jennifer is married and in the Air Force and Grandson Eric is going to school on the west coast.
Marcia and I got married in 1973 and are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary this year with a cruise to Alaska. 1973 is also the year I began my career with Combined Insurance Company, which then was a subsidiary of AON Corporation (a...Expand for more
nd in later years, of ACE and then Chubb). I retired from Combined in 2014 after 41 years of service, leaving as an Assistant Vice President, and the Director of their Field Human Resource Management Department. My staff and I make up the HR Department for Combined's 3,000 sales employees.
For 48 years I was the Master of Ceremonies of the French Festival, one of the largest summer events in Northern NY, which is held in the village of Cape Vincent. It is known as the French Festival and is a celebration of the French heritage in that area. I had a great time doing that.
Today, and for the past 8 years I have been the volunteer director of the Christ Our Light Catholic Church Food Pantry in the Albany suburb of Loudonville. We currently serve over 80 food-insecure households 8 days of nutritious food each month. I can't say that I ever expected to be running a food pantry in my retirement years, but it is a very fulfilling post-career part of my life.
