George's Story
Hi, y'all.
Well, I have to say that life has been somewhat good to me over the years. I'm retired now (end of 2009) after 20 years working a number of different positions within GE's Aircraft Engines business. My final position was as a "Global Marketing Manager" - which is just GE-speak for "sales guy" - but my territory was the whole world. I got to travel a lot on GE's dime; to both nice places and some armpits. Visiting those aforementioned armpits makes one thankful for what we have here in the good ol' USA!
I still have hair (thank you heredity!), and most of my mental faculties are intact (would I know if they weren't??). Only bad thing is my wife of 27 years passed away back in May 2008 (from a super-early onset of severe Alzheimer's; good thing is that she didn't suffer too long). I have since "reattached" myself to my favorite girl from the The Old Days (Lynelle Callaway; class of '71); we got married toward the end of 2009. Its funny how life works out sometim...Expand for more
es!
I'm really enjoying retirement (who wouldn't!). We bought a place out in the Texas hill country to just relax and play with my old cars (check the photos of the house and my current fleet). Its a comfortable 2,600-ft house on 2 acres, with a 2,500-ft shop for the old cars (with a lift!). Also added a "quilting room" for Lynelle (her hobby). Yep; I'm still a car guy, and have a gaggle of old cars here at home.
A few of us local gearheads got together a few years ago and started a local car club, and a monthly Coffee & Cars event here in Wimberley (the 12 Kings Car Club -- named after Ranch Road 12 that runs thru Wimberley). Google it if you're interested (since I can't add a link here!).
I also volunteer in my small subdivision; am a current POA Board member, and am the one-man Maintenance Committee! Gotta stay busy!
I hope all of my old NWCHS pals are doing as well (or better), and I look forward to contacting some of you in the not-too-distant future. Take care.
