George's Story
After graduating from Canoga Park High School, I enlisted in the US Air Force for four years. After Tech. School, I was assigned to the 4141St; Strategic Air Command; OMS- Base Flight Unit, Glasgow AFB, Glasgow, MT from Jan 20. 1961 to Jan 10, 1963.
I then transferred to the 1727th Support Sq., (TRANS) (MATS) Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska from Jan 11, 1963 to July 10, 1964, not bad for a 2 year assignment.
After being Honorable Discharged from the U.S. Air Force. I attended L.A. Pierce College. Majoring in Electronic Engineering for a 1½ yrs. L.A. Valley College majoring in Fire and Police Sciences part time.
I entered the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Academy in Sept. 1966. After graduating from the CHP Academy as a State Traffic Officer (STO), I was assignment to East Los Angeles Area for 3 yrs. I then transferred to West Valley Area, West San Fernando Valley, L.A. for 13 yrs. While at West Valley Area I became a member of the California Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), Southern Division (Los Angeles). My last assignment was at Chico Area Office, Chico, CA until my retirement in Dec.1996. I was still a member of the MAIT Team f...Expand for more
or Valley Division, Sacramento until my retirement.
I am married to a wonderful lady named Sue for over 41 yrs. We have two grown sons Steve (Folsom, CA) and Robert (Paradise, CA). We have two granddaughters (Steve's daughters) Samantha 13 and Sophia 7.
We live in Paradise, CA since 1983 while not on the road.
We love to travel. Sue says, "I have happy feet". I tow a 30 foot fifth wheel trailer with a Dodge Diesel pick-up. In 2000, we traveled to Alaska, Western Canada, and Montana. In 2001 we traveled across Canada from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island for two months, then down the east coast. We were planning on taking a tour of New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. I decided not to go to NY City because I hate big cities. Instead we went to Niagara Falls and Finger Lakes Areas for about one week. From there we continued down the east coast to the Florida Keys. We were lucky Florida didn't have any hurricanes while we were there. We did get a lot of T-Storms. We drove back to California via I-10 and we made all the stops through out the South, AL, MS, LA, TX, NM, AZ, and Palm Springs Area were we stayed for couple of weeks for R&R before heading home.
Take care,
George Leerhuber
