George's Story
Military
I joined the AF in 1995 because I wanted to do something meaningful, and I wanted to take advantage of the benefits to continue my education. I enlisted as a Computer Programmer and went off to Basic Training and Technical Training. For my first assignment, I was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX, where I provided computer/network support and developed Computer Based Training courses for the Technical Schools located at Lackland. In 1998, I was transferred to Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM, where I worked as a System Administrator and Network Programmer. mpleted OTS at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL, and I received my commission as a 2Lt in 2000. My next assignment took me to HQ Air Force Space Command where I served as a Network Project Manager and as Crew Commander for the Network Operations and Security Center. In 2002, I was transferred to Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach, FL, where I served as the Deputy Commander, Mission Systems Flight and as the Deputy Chief of Maintenance. I was promoted to Capt in 2004 and then assigned as the Commander, Network Operations Flight. I am responsible for managing the boundary protection and vulnerability assesment for the Eglin Air Force Base network. I am currently deployed to Liberia (in western Africa) with the United Nations serving as a Military Observer.
