George's Story

After leaving Florida and moving to South Carolina, I had to make friends all over again. I did convince my parents to finally let me play football. So that worked out. But I got sick on Thanksgiving of my senior year and lost about 70 pounds, that along with letting a coach tell me maybe I wasn't cut out to play in college and believing him I gave up on my dream of playing. After High School I went to college for a semester, dropped out because I had no goal in mind and I wanted to get "paid", dumbest move I ever did.Because of all the moves I had made growing up, I found that I didn't keep a lot of close friends and that has always bothered me. Worked a lot of different "jobs" and finally settled on diesel mechanics for a while. But even took a break from that to drive over the road for a year. Went back to mechanics because I missed my boys and they missed me to much. Their momma got them watching football, I didn't watch after I stopped playing, and they got hooked on it and began playing at the boys club. That was right after my mother passed away from Cancer in 1999. The first loss of a relative I went through and she was my best friend. I wasn't going to coach but realized they needed help after two practices and eventually ended up coaching every year. Then I started a Pop Warner league with Natrone Means and have been coaching and ru...Expand for more
nning that since 2002. Natrone also told me that I still had the look in my eye that I wanted to hit somebody so I joined the local semi pro team the Carolina Eagles. I discovered that I could still play at 33, I kept growing after High School and worked out a lot so I got to be 6'2" and 290 lbs. and was the starting Center from 2003-2006. I had to sit out last year because my blood pressure was super high, not because of eating or hereditary, but because of stress from working were I did not want to work, not being happy with where I was in my life, and not having a close buddy or friend that I could vent to. I have my stress straightened out now and both of my boys are going to be playing high school ball for Concord High School next year, my oldest was the starting QB on Varsity as a sophomore last year. And I still run off season football agility and conditioning camps from January to August for all 7-17 year old kids . I have just enrolled back in college to finish getting my bachelor's degree in education so I can eventually get into head coaching at the high school level. I have a knack and a passion for football, coaching and working with kids, and with a lot of my life experiences I believe it is my destiny to pass my information and drive and determination along to them. SO all in all I am doing great and enjoy life to its fullest.
