Gerald's Story
I graduated in June 1963 from Hirsch High. And left all nof those lovely girls behind. For those who did not know it I was supposed to graduate in Jan 63, but I made a side trip to Ft Lee Va which sent me to Peabody High School in Petersburg VA for a year.It caused me to not have the right mix to graduate on time..but it gave me a look at the segregated South and how the goverment could turn their backs when it pleased them. When I got back to Chicago, I found that I was a stranger in my graduating class, but I made new friends and move on and was better for the delay. I grew up in that extra time. I joined the army in August and went on to basic and then on to Los Angles Air Defense Command. I found that life was not like I imagined it would be (imagine that). I left California and went to Huntsville Alabama..Redstone Arsenal...Marshal Space Flight Center. I was able to realize my dreams in working with missiles and rockets and see the Space Race close up. I wae able to get my BS at Athens State Univ and a Masters at Alabama A&M Univ, recieved years and years of training in electronics and trained adults in Chrysler Electronics about electronic manufacturing equipment. I now help the troops in the field maintain their electronic equipment in their combat armor vehicle's fire control. I have traveled the world..Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Switizerland, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Austria, England, Chech Republic,...Expand for more
Iraq, Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, Egypt and 46 states. Huntsville became my pivot point which means I always seem to come back here and Here I am after 46 years and 22 years in the Army. I got to travel, go to school, get my degrees, work with great guys and great projects. I have done it all.... I worked, trained, educated, travelled, loved and lost, and had kids and live to boast about it.I am now in a Renovation project working on my house and having fun. I have found that God has a much better plan for you then you can even imagine for yourself. I have not slowed down yet! Even after retiring from the Army, I am still travelling around the world for the Army. Right now I am back from Korea working with the 2nd Infantry's tanks. I traveled here too! I have been traveled around Kores and Japan. I finally made it to the 2008 Hirsch reunion and saw so many of my friends, and wished that I had kept up with them. Now I have to play catch up.I have travel photos on Facebook! They are open to everyone.
The best for last. I have asked my friend of 16 years to marry. She has always been my friend and never my lover. We have exercised as partners and talked and joked and broke up when it appeared that it was effecting our own marriages. Now we found each other again! Many years after our divorces and we found that we are friends and in love and can address the strong issues with out defensiveness. We have found ourselves perfect harmony and love.
