Gerald's Story

My brother Sylvester (Chris), and I came to Bond School from Apalachicola, FL. Some teachers were Ms. Kilpatrick, Blackshear, Spearman, McLin,etc, and the Principal was Ms Lillian Spencer!Under Ms. Laster, I was trained and participated in essay contests and spelling bees. I was the spelling champ for Leon County throughout my years at Bond, and up to eleventh grade at FAMU High School (lost that year on the word 'bouquet'). Completed high school at FAMU, then went to New York to Harlem Hospital School of Nursing--finished in 1957. That same year, I married Samuel Baker (Tallahassee), and we were married for 47 and a half years until his demise in 2004. We had two sons; one expired in 1991, three weeks before his 30th birthday. My older son lives with his family in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. I have three grandchilren and one beautiful great grand daughter. I am a retired Registered Nurse, but yet very active in community and church entities and I have lived here in Lawrenceville since 2004; previously lived in New York, Texas, and then to Georgia. I love to write, and have been journaling steadily since 1965. I'm very active in my church activities and I'm so thankful and blessed to be involved with this membership. I'm grateful, also, to be healthy! Planning to attend the Bond School Reunion in Tallahasse this year, in July. My brother also lives here in the Atlanta area. I am fore...Expand for more
ver grateful to the teachers at Bond School who instillled wonderful habits in me concerning studying and researching information. Ms. Lillie- bell Smith was also instrumental in molding my elementary and junior high school years. The only teacher that I saw in 2007 were Ms. Eva Manning and Ms Lucille Williams sent a taped message to the group. So many of my clasmates have demised, and I'm so happy to hear from any others who may be blessed to yet be alive. I'm now 72 years, and daily I thank God for salvation, sanity, and safety! Three biggies in my life! I think I dress appropriately for my age group; certainly not a mini skirt girl anymore! Others might be surprised to see that I'm not that skinny Gerald Curry that I once was, although, I'm not HUGE!!! I did home health nursing well over thity years, and truly enjoyed it. Some of my best memories of childhood in Tallahassee was going to the county fair. Don't know if they even occur anymore. I've had a wonderful and blessed life, even through ups and downs. God is so good and I appreciate all of my life's experiences, so far! Inviting others who may read this to attend the Reunion scheduled in Tallahassee, July 24-26, 2009. Looking forward to a wonderful time! Genevieve Rush Staten and Frances Balwdwin wre 2 friends at Bond School. Frances introf=duced tme to Samuel Baker; Gen has just been herself-always supportive and positive.
