Gerard's Story
I'm living, retired, in the west end of Toronto happily.
Well, not happy that I'm retired, because I''m not retired because I won a lottery, or have a huge investment portfolio, or any of the "good" reasons one might retire at 39 years old.
I was diagnosed with MS in 2000, and in 2002 I just couldn't work anymore.
Now, the "upside". I am happy, I know there are billions (with a "b") of people on this planet that would GLADLY take my place in a heartbeat. I have a great apartment, wonderful sisters, good friends, food on the table and 2 great cats to keep me company.
I have an indomitable spirit of optimism and positivity. Nobody can understand why or how I can be so positive, but nonetheless I am. I also maintain a sense of humour about pretty much everything (including my condition).
I'm physically stronger now than I was 20/30/40 years ago, and I try and walk between 2 and 4k everyday. I'm limited in that I do require a rollator to get around, but I'm not in a chair...Expand for more
yet. So I walk to put that date as far into the future as possible.
I'm also a "writer" so to speak, and have a blog that I try and write whenever I'm inspired. I'd put the address in here, but classmates doesn't allow that. I guess I could try gerardb wordpress com (you can add in the periods) and see if that passes?
I'm single, currently, but have had some wonderful (and not so wonderful) relationships over the past couple of years [since my second marriage ended]). Will I ever do the marriage thing again? Yeah, no. I'm good the way I am.
Anyway, in a nutshell, that's me (or at least that's as far as I'm going here, because really, who actually reads these things anyway???).

PS the eye-patch is something I almost always wear for 2 reasons. First, I have pretty severe double vision from the whole MS thing, so by wearing the eye-patch I only see one of everything. The second reason is I kinda rock the pirate look, or so I've been told :).
