Gerry's Story
Life
In 2021, retired for 13 years. Turned 73 in April, on Medicare and Social Security. I worked for 45 years and feel that I earned these benefits. I am active in AARP, and I do volunteer work. I am in good health, cataract surgery went well and vision is 20/25, best ever. I'm on Facebook (gigs.rowland) and have several OSHS friends there. Basically, retirement is good.
Retired in 2008 after 30 years in libraries. I am now a lifetime member of the Iowa Library Assn.
I was a consultant with the State Library of Iowa. I've been in Iowa for 40 years. I'm an avid kayaker, winter and summer, and I've paddled the 404 miles of the Des Moines River (twice). Slowing down now, enjoy photography. Pix at: desmoinesriver.org

o appreciate my time at Middlebury. My favorite class was Student Revolution, the most important was Asian History. My Midd education kept me out of the draft and out of the war until senior year, when I was mature enough to be a draft resister.

Give a donation to the school if you can, they do a good job.
I hope old friends remember me as a caring and interesting person.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were close.
Retirement is a garden that needs tending. When I get stressed or don't like something, I just need to remember that I don't have to do that anymore. I like to rock in a chair that has been in my wife's family and came to us last year.
My parents are my heroes.
