Gina's Story

Life Gina Miller (Rennie)Biography Nickname: Nanogirl Personal website: nanogirl dot com My company: Nanotechnology Industries nanoindustries dot com My main focus is on the emerging science of nanotechnology, nano represents a scale of measure, just as micro does, but a nanometer is much smaller and is one billionth of a meter. It is so small that it is invisible to The goal of nanotechnology is to have control on this atomic level, just like nature already does but repair some of those errors like disease, and ageing, and since atoms make up not just the human body but everything, this means we could also repair pollution and the ozone layer on the atomic level and repair soil that can not grow so that it produces food in areas of the world that are without such luxuries today. I a supporter of nanotech and other related emerging technologies because I can not wait to see a healthier, happier world. I founded Nanotechnology Industries in 1998 (nanoindustries dot com) a portal for nanotechnology resources and free membership nanotechnology news email lists. Within the nanotech line of work, I am a regular contributor to several publications and I provide interviews and consulting on the subject. I also created computer generated images and animations on the topics of future technologies. My 3D computer images and animations have been featured in publications (books, magazines, book covers, movies) to help foster awareness of nanotechnology. If I were to describe my interests in one sentence it would be a futurist, artist, constant student of life, humanitarian and nanotechnology enthusiast. In my spare time I really like to create things, whether it be crafting, sewing, handmade cards or making my computer generated arts and animation. I have a romance with the styles, art and history of eras gone by (I guess I'm not all futurist). I like to watch old movies, especially silent movies. I am a fan of Valentino, Fritz Lang, Chaplin, Mucha, Erte and also scientists such Einstein, Ada Lovelace and Richard Feynman. My favorite movies of the modern ag...Expand for more
e are Pi and The Matrix, I just wish they didn't have such bad endings! I would love to see a technological movie that actually uses the technology as a solution or utopia as opposed to feared antagonist! I enjoy investigating the big questions in life: our whole history as humans on this earth, understanding how our minds work, the theory of thought, the orgins of man, the birth of the universe and philosophy. I love to learn about everything. I want to always be evolving in my mind and as a person. I have been certified in three animation areas (via Mesmer animation labs) I have been busy creating computer generated art and animation work that you can download at my personal website nanogirl dot com. School Grade school was in San Jose and Morgan Hill Ca. (three schools: Terrell, Morgan Hill and Nordstrom) until we moved to Susanville when I was in the middle of fourth grade. I just barely attended McKinley school, then Diamond View from 5th grade until 8th grade. I attended Lassen High School, Calvary Baptist, Washoe High in Reno and graduated from Lassen. Whew. I went to college in Chico and later I moved to Seattle and attended North Seattle. I have also received 3 computer animation certificates, one from a Discreet trainer who teaches at Puget Sound, and the second and third from Mesmer animation labs. College I previously attended college in Chico Ca. where I was interested in the arts. However in 1993 I saw a PBS television aired movie on Nanotechnology which sparked an interest in science. I had been attending North Seattle with a complete reverse interest from my previous college. I then decided to marry my interest in art and science by animating future technologies. I have attended Puget Sound Center and Mesmer animation labs where I took courses in a program called 3D Studio Max, to train in 3 Dimensional computer generated animation. From each course I earned a certificate. Certified in 3DS Max, character studio and Combustion/Special effects. I am using these skills in collaboration with my nanotechnology interest to create 3D animations.
