Ginger's Story
Life
After graduation from high school I attended Elmhurst College for two years where I majored in music. After that I spent two years in the Teacher Corps, training as an intern teacher in poverty stricken areas of Des Moines (Bird Elementary). I received a Masters in Education from Drake University in '74 with a second major in music.
Following graduation I taught as a volunteer elementary school teacher at St. Stephen's School on the Wind River Indian reservation in Wyoming. s time as a classroom music teacher and private piano/guitar teacher at Our Lady of the Lake School in Wedgwood.
Unfortunately, in 1996 I was diagnosed with lupus and sadly resigned my teaching position two years later. Fortunately, I am still able to give a few piano lessons in our home, which I enjoy tremendously.
Lupus is a painful auto-immune illness in which the immune system attacks healthy tissue, including connective tissue, blood vessels, the skin and major organs. As it turns out, many of my long absences from school were lupus flares and not rheumatic fever. After having two life-threatening flares, I welcome every birthday, glad that I'm still here and am thankful to have such a loving and helpful family.
