Ginny's Story
Life
I am teaching at Powell Middle School in Area E with many teachers that we all had back when we were there (see work bio.) I have a 7 year old (going on 12) who is in 2nd grade at Powell Elementary. My husband and I adopted a toddler from China. She is now 3 years old. My husband works at Y-12 Credit Union in Oak Ridge and is a Lieutenent in the Navy Reserve. He was recently deployed to Iraq for 8 months. I have learned to enjoy each and every day because life is always full of surprises-never take anything for granted.
As for being a school teacher, I remember all of the nasty things that kids did to teachers. Now I have to deal with all of that silliness in the classroom. Times have really changed since we were in school. Kids are not afraid of their parents like most of us were. If you got in trouble at school, you got in trouble at home. Not today!!!

observe your child in the classroom for a day or just visit/volunteer at a local school. You will be definitely be surprised and certainly not bored!
Workplace
I teach 7th grade Social Studies at Powell Middle School in Area E. I worked with many teachers who were my teachers. However, they have all retired except Mr. Jursik. I did work with Mrs. Street, Mrs. Rovere, Mrs. Latham, Mrs. Parrott and Mrs. Akers (Mrs. Hayden when we were in school) but they all retired. There are over 80 teachers now and the school is packed-unlike what it was when we went there.
I really like teaching these 12-13 year olds. It is never boring! Being a parent, it gives me a good idea of how teachers are looked at in the community and how teachers look at the parents of those crazy kids (and in some cases crazy parents.) I am now teaching the kids of some of our classmates. Talk about making you feel old!
