Glady's Story

After high school graduation,I attended college for one year, met the person I thought I could be happy with for the rest of my life, married him and left school to raise a family. My parents were disappointed, but marriage and a family seemed more important to me than school when I was 18. We had three children, but after 10 years I realized our moral values were no longer a match. Stuck it out 13 more years until the children were a bit older and finally filed for divorce. Tough times - I thought I had married for life. In 1980 I married Jack, my hero and truly the love of my life. We just celebrated 30 years of wedded bliss. I teasingly tell him I have given him the 30 best years of his life -- and bless him, he doesn't disagree (out loud, any way -- he is a very wise man). I started my working career as a secretary at Boeing's Renton plant, watch...Expand for more
ed from the tarmac as they rolled out the brand new 707. Left Boeing pregnant with my first child, and was a stay-at-home mom until the third and last was in school. Worked for 30 more years, first as an executive secretary and then as assistant to the president. A former college asked me to be the risk department for a suspended scaffolding manufacturer in Tukwila, WA (yes, I was indeed the department - it was a department of one, and I was it). Very interesting - spent the last 5 years of my carrier there. Jack and I retired in 2004 and moved ourselves and 3 greyhounds to the home we had purchased in 2000 on the Big Island of Hawaii. In 2005 we purchased a 1/2-acre lot with an ocean view from my cousin Pat, and now enjoy waking up each morning to enjoy a warm Hawaiian sunrise from the lanai on our new house. We are so very blessed, and life is good.

On top of the world -- the exterior walkway around the Subaru observatory -- altitude 13,800 feet -- BRRRRR! It snowed 36 hours later and they closed the road to the summit.
