Glen's Story
Glen's schools and "history" include:
=Born in Wadestown, WV December 10, 1929.
=Wadestown Junior High School (1936-45)
=Clay-Battelle High School, Blacksville WV (1945-48).
=USAF (1948-1955); Electronics system technician; last stationed at March AFB,
Riverside, CA. Then worked in electronics systems field (Motorola Systems Research),
Riverside, CA.
=Riverside Community College (RCC) 1955-59; AA, Major: physics. Took 4 years while
working full time
=University of Calif, Riverside (UCR) 1959-62. Major: physics. Dropped out ... physics "not
for me."
=Dec. 20, 1960. Married Corinne Bartland, 2nd generation Italian. We met at RCC.
=UCR: 1964-66: BA. After "accidental" experience in archaeology, decided to return to
college in new degree program (anthropology/archaeology); almost dropped out in 2nd
year ... evaluated archaeology as mostly "art" not a "science" as I understood it. Read
about and understood "New Archaeology" based on quantitative hypothesis testing and
cultural systems/evolutionary paradigm ... decided to continue.
=UCLA: University of Calif, Los Angeles (1966-68: MA). Major: anthropology, emphasis

haeology. Professor who founded New Archaeology became my mentor.
=UNM: University of New Mexico (1968-69). I and another student followed professor,
founder of New Archaeology, who moved from UCLA to UNM. We both left UNM after
one year. I went back to UCLA.
=UCLA: University of Calif Los Angeles (1969-75: PhD). Received NSF and other grants
and took crew of students from UCLA to Arizona to excavate pueblo site. Used New
Archaeology paradigm to analyze and interpret data.
=UCLA, 1975-1977, taught 2 semester Introductory Archaeology in evening school.
=Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX (1977-1994). Academic job market "in the tank." Hired as Federal
Civil Service employee to develop and manage Cultural Resources (historical and
archeological properties) Program to comply with Federal Law and Regulation requiring
the million acre Fort Bliss to "locate, evaluate, and protect" significant historic properties
in context of Bliss' on-going military training of air defense and armored units.
=1994: Retired; Corinne and I relocated to Albuquerque, NM in 1996.
=March 8, 2018; Corinne, wife of 59 years, my best friend and partner, died.
