Glen's Story
Life
3 days after I graduated high school I joined the US Army because I had a draft lottery number of 41. After I went through Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training I received orders for RVN, Republic of Vietnam. I was the only one out of my graduating class to be so lucky. I was diverted from Cam Rohn Bay Vietnam to the 412th Terminal Service Port Company Naha Okinawa. There they gave me a key to be able to open the Port every morning so that the War Supplies I dispatched on my trucks could be moved around the Island and be put on Military Transports going to the Vietnam War. I lived on Naha Air Base and worked at the Naha Military Port. Our mission was to keep all of South Vietnam well supplied with all of the supplies it took to fight the war and plenty of body bags and coffins. After my 1 year tour of duty there I was assigned to Ft Hood TX. For 18 months. While stationed there I went on red alert for Israel and ended up spending 3 months in Germany in 1973. Along with about 1/2 of Ft. Hood TX. My Ending Term of Service was June 28 1974. I went to work for John Deere Waterloo, Tractor works for 4 ½ years and worked in ...Expand for more
final assembly and delivery 48D. Then moved to Seattle WA. To be close to an Army buddy who had been in Vietnam. I lived there from April 1979 thru 1984. While there I worked for Precision Airmotive and attended Everett Community College. I was going to be a Aircraft Power-plant mechanic but thanks to Jimmy Carter, it all got lost. I did learn to fly airplanes though. I then became a Truck Driver and ran 14 Western States, Alberta and British Columbia Canada for 2 ½ years. Then began running all 48 States Coast to Coast some time in 1983 and in 1990 became an Owner Operator until I was injured in 1999 which left me blind in my right eye. I have PTSD, Depression, Anxiety and deal with some guilt issues. I now receive 70% Disability from the Military for my part in the Vietnam War. I may soon be getting Agent Orange benefits because they believe that the Agent Orange I came into contact with caused my early onset of cataracts and led to the blindness in my right eye. I also receive Social Security Disability insurance.
