U.S. PATENT: JOINT "SURFACE" REPLACEMENT SYSTEM
PATENT NUMBER: 5,683,466
DATE OF ISSUE: NOV. 4,1997
This "all new" concept of Joint replacement, utilizes a unibody design, to replace, ONLY the anatomic structure of the cartilage alone, (an un-accomplished feat, to this day).It further introduces, by its design, a new approach for "EARLY" joint repair, meaning, the ability to repair the joint prior to the developement of significant arthrosis. This is accomplished by the development of a "PARTIAL" JOINT SURFACE REPLACEMENT component, (one of 3 components of this system). This early repair has the potential to eliminate the need for TOTAL joint replacements, and having to wait for them with long term pain. The other 2 components of the system are the : "TOTAL" and "HEMI" JOINT SURFACE REPLACEMENTS.
The great advantages of this system are numerous, that FAR exceeds the industry standards and present joint systems:
1. virtually weightless components, 2. unibody design,...Expand for more
3.absolutely NO bone resection or subchondral bone resection (a vital portion of bone to the joint's ability to firmly hold and allow this system to function and last), 4. materials that are least reactive to the body: surgical grade Titainium, chromium alloy, or stainless steel, all utilizing metal to metal, metal to ceramic or all ceramic articular surfaces, 5. AO screw stems, under-surface bone in-growth beads and bone prongs, for firm and rigid fixation, 6. smooth and full range of motion in all 3 planes, 7. provides simple methods of manufacturing, surgical installation and removal, for unsurpassed cost effectiveness, 8. allows complete radiographic view of the entire system for analysis...and more.
The goal is to significantly improve the present joint replacement systems being used today, to that of a true "SURFACE" replacement. To eliminate the long term pain of arthritis, and create a system that would potentially last a life time. Visit the U.S. Patent Office and review the Patent for all of its details.
