Glenn's Story
From Glenn Swenson to Glenn Dohring and back again ...
This first part of this story probably contains more details than many of you need to know. But I thought it might be helpful for some of you, especially since I'm listed as "Glenn Dohring" for all of the elementary schools I attended and then Glenn Swenson from the 7th Grade onward.
I was born in Los Angleles on December 12, 1951 and lived in Southern California for the first ten years of my life. My mother's maiden name was Lillian Forselles, whose parents immigrated here from Sweden. My father's name was Freeman Swenson, whose parents immigrated here from Denmark.
My parents got divorced when I was very young (6 months old), and so when my Mom got remarried to William Dohring, I became known as Glenn Dohring.
After finishing the 6th grade, I decided that I wanted to start using my real last name for various reasons. So I changed my name back to Glenn Swenson at the start of the 7th Grade and that's who I've been known as ever since!
I lived in the following locations in Southern California before we moved to Sacramento in the Spring of 1962: Los Angeles, Long Beach, Ontario, Buena Park, Lakewood, Riverside (1st & 2nd Grade at West Riverside Elementary School), Santa Ana (part of my 2nd & 3rd Grades at Sierra Elementary School, now called Sierra Intermediate School) and Tustin (part of my 3rd Grade and most of my 4th Grade at Guin Foss Elementary School).
(Special note to Denise Mayo if you're still out there somewhere: I recently came across some great photos of us from the 2nd grade (West Riverside Elementary School in Riverside, CA), when we were the two lead actors for our school play: "Easter Parade". We were so adorable, if I must say so myself! If you're interested, I can scan the photos and e-mail them to you).
My family moved to Sacramento in the Spring of 1962, where I finished 4th, 5th and 6th grades at Orange Grove Elementary School, now called Orange Grove Adult School (located right down the street from American River College).
Some of my classmates at Orange Grove Elementary School who later attended Mira Loma include David Allen, John Bierer, Paul Brown, Deborah Bruno, Dick Burkhardt, Barbara Coker, Carolyn Cole, Deborah Dano, Jeff Engbretson, Steve Fleming, Lynne Forsythe, Jackie Gaftunick, Shirley Green, Lyle Griffith, Glenn Hyson, Susan Lamoreaux, Deborah McClendon, Kathy Melton, Paul Nelson, Eddie Smith, Tanya Tarver, Becky Williams and a number of others whom I am no doubt forgetting.
I went to Arcade Junior High for my entire 7th and 8th Grades (1964 - 1966), but I only went to Mira Loma for my Freshman, Sophomore and Senior years.

th some friends of the family in Riverside, CA and in Beaumont, CA, where I attended Norte Vista HIgh School and Beaumont High School respectively. I moved back up to Sacramento again for my entire Senior year and then graduated from Mira Loma (along with many of you) in 1970.
Some of you used to call me by the nickname "Parnelli" (during high school), which was short for Parnelli Jones, a well-known race car driver at the time. I probably earned that nickname because of my little racing go-cart (which I brought to school on more than one occasion) and perhaps from my general style of driving on the streets.
Much has happened since I graduated from Mira Loma forty years ago (!!), but it nets out to being happily married to Mitzi Copenhaver, having a great son who gave us two adorable grandchildren and enjoying life more than ever! I have also made a lot of progress on my spiritual journey along the way!
My wife and I are planning to attend the upcoming 40-year reunion, and I hope to see a big turnout - so please contact Cathy Carter and send your check off to her as soon as you can!
