Glenn's Story

Many of you remember the Edmonds family and the struggles we had in our growing-up years. We lost our dad and watched his struggle with cancer for many years. It had a great impact on all of us from the oldest to the youngest. In my senior year, I quit school to work and help my mom with the younger children. I married young and had my first four children young. I spent about five years farming in South Dakota and had four crop failures during that time. One day, I decided it was the end of my farming and sold everything. I migrated to California and there went back to school at UCLA studying engineering and attended many trade schools as well. Upon completion of my studies, I went to work for Cessna in Wichita, Kansas. While there I met Dan Hoss and was asked to join Lyons Mfg as their Quality Control Manager. Dan was a great mentor and allowed me to grow and mature in this role over many years. With serious family problems ongoing, I moved to Wichita, going back to work for Cessna. During that time, my first wife and I divorced and she returned to South Dakota with our children. I later married my current wife, Connie. She is a preacher¿s daughter and led me to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It has been the true turning point of my life. fore. Connie and I have one daughter. She is now married with 3 girls and lives just around the corner from us. I have relationship with my son, Charlie, and daughter, Glenda, from my first marriage. Mike and Kim (children from my first marriage) have chosen a lifestyle that has caused them to be alienated from family (their choice). They are always in our thoughts and prayers. In the meantime, my career had flourished. I held many positions at Cessna including, General Superintendant of the Machine Shop and Quality Lab Supervisor. During my time at Cessna, I also got my pilot¿s license and did many continuing education courses. My last assignment was as an Aeronautical Design Engineer working on Cessna Model CJ2 and 3. Many of my later work days were filled with problem solving and redesigning of the planes. I often took the test rides with the pilots before they were delivered to the customer. This job often was exciting and a little bit nerve racking. When I finally retired at 65, I was called back and worked as a consultant for an additional 3-1/2 years. With the job still opened to me bit living with the fact that my family had moved to Colorado and I was making trips there every two to three weeks, I finally called it quits. I now volunteer with Habitat and for my local church helping those around me whenever possible.
