Gloria's Story

Life Hafa adai and hello to all my school friends and classmates. Much has happened in my life since our graduation from high school. I attended the Univ. of Guam and received a BA in Sociology/Psychology. After a short career as a social worker with the court system, I went to San Francisco where I earned my Masters Degree in Social Work. It was my intention to return to Guam, but instead ended up working for a major airlines, and have been in this industry for over 27 years. Due to the nature of my job, I have lived in and have been based in many major cities and have been fortunate to have the opportunity to travel all over the world. I currently am a flight attendant for domestic/international trips and also a part time real estate agent licensed in the state of Georgia. Aside from the travel benefits, my chosen career opened up other opportunities for me and my family. I was a volunteer for 2 of the Olympic games (in Los Angeles and Atlanta), for the Paralympic Games; a host family for a child from Switzerland and Spain; flew on flights that delivered our military troops to Kuwait; participated in the rescue of displaced families from Katrina; worked with international agencies such as UNICEF and International Red Cross to raise money for the tsunami victims in Southeast Asia, build homes f...Expand for more
or the Habitat for Humanity agency; participated in missions to poor countries such as Haiti to deliver medical supplies; met many celebrities along the way......it certainly has been very interesting and quite educational. During the year 2007, I have flown many trips to the continent of Africa. I have enjoyed my layovers, going on safaris, city tours, shopping, etc. More important, however, is realizing how humble one can get when you see the poverty and hunger in some of these African countries. I have decided to assist in a fund raising event to raise money to purchase washers/dryers for an orphanage in Senegal. I encourage everyone to seek out an organization that is involved with helping out the children of Africa, or for that matter, children from any country in the world. I have 1 child, a wonderful and beautiful daughter, who is currently a freshman in college. She has not declared a major but has shown much interest in languages. She has studied Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Update - 2012 My daughter graduated last year with her BA in political science/ intl affairs and a minor in French and will attend law school in 2013. I have expanded my flying to Africa to include the countries of Ghana and Nigeria. Due to my mother's failing health, I have been going back and forth to Guam.
