Gordon's Story

Well, as you may know, I started life at a very early age. Growing up, I had three sisters, no brothers. My sisters had a brother but I didn't. We moved several times, first to Mt. Brydges, west of London, then back to London, then outside of London, on a farm and then back into London again. I got tired of moving so I joined the airforce and only moved 5 times after that. After leaving the airforce in 1964 I moved to Creston, BC and then back to London where I stayed for 2 years before moving to Toronto where I got married before moving back to London and then to Goderich and a year later to Seaforth when I had my own business. After that we (wife and kid) moved to Barrie, Ontario. I've been in that area ever since. I was divorced in 1979 and remarried in 1983 to Ardis Morris. She had 3 kids and I had 4. Only her children lived with us until they grew up. We now share a property with her eldest daughter and her husband and 4 children. We have ...Expand for more
separate living areas and share over an acre of land. For over 20 years I have operated my own business, bookkeeping and tax preparation, working from my home. We have a dog, a beautiful pure bred collie, and two cats. We also have a 25 ft Airstream travel trailer which we haul behind our 2002 Chevy Avalanche to various places. I am now semi-retired drawing my "for life" income from the government and working part time in my business. Between us, Ardis and I have seven children with partners and 13 grandchildren ranging in age from 2 months to 21 years. The newest one I haven't seen yet (as of Jan. 2009) because he lives in China with his parents, my son and his wife, Dounan, a beautiful young lady of Asian decent. Ardis can retire in three years and then we may travel more....have trailer, will travel. We also own a timeshare in Orlando, Florida and hope to exchange time for some exotic places in the world during the cold season here.

Now we're at the Shaker Village and our tour guide is giving a passionate explanation of life at the village in Shaker times. She knew one of the last of the Shakers to have lived there.

This notice was on a motor and at first not sure what "earthed" meant then I realized they meant to say "grounded". It appears the Chinesè often get English words mixed up. 😃

This is a secret room with a four foot high door. The owner and builder, Mr. Plant, was a short man and this was his hiding place where he could sit undisturbed and read and listen to the radio.
Living room fireplace in the castle.
A beautiful dining room commanding a great view.
Ardis checking out a wood stove in the castle kitchen.
Having lunch in the Carriage House. You can put your elbows on the table here because this is a horses stable.
This is a view from the front of the castle.
This is the front of the castle that faces Lake Winnepesauki and a beautiful view of many square miles of scenery.
Inside the castle we donned hats to have our picture taken in a tea room on the second floor.
