Gordon's Story
Born in Cheyenne in July, 1949. lived South of Cheyenne and attended Rossman Grade School until family moved to Hillsdale in 1956. Went to Hillsdale School from 1956 - 1965. Lettered in Cross Country, Basketball, and Track; was in band and FFA and Tip Toppers 4-H club. Went to Cheyenne East High 1965 until graduating in 1967. Was in Marching Band and a memeber of High School Rodeo Association.
Joined Army in January, 1968. Went to Basic at Fort Bliss, Texas then to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for artillery AIT. Went through Artillery Non-Commissioned Officer Combat Leadership School graduating August, 1968 as E-5, buck sergeant. Instructor at SP School and then went to VietNam in December, 1968. Was a gun section chief on 105mm howitzers with B battery 1/11 Arty, 9th Infantry Division, at FSB Moore, to end of February, 1969. Volunteered as artillery recon sergeant (Forward Observer), and served with 2/39 Infantry at FSB Schroeder. WIA on April 6, 1969. Went to Austrailia on R&R during the moon landing in July, 1969. Served briefly at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Went to Fort Sill stationed with 3/30 artillery and attached to Artillery School as an instructor. Went to Nurnberg, Germany in February, 1970 and was battalion FDC chief for 3/17 artillery at Merrell Barracks untill seperation in January 1971. I am a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Military Order of the Purple Heart.

I rodeoed in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska in the 70's. I have worked on farms and ranches in Oklahoma, Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming; owned my own semi and hauled cattle and followed the wheat harvest; worked for Wyoming Department of Agriculture, Sun Valley Corporation - Sun Valley, Idaho; 90th Civil Engineering Squadron, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Laramie County Conservation District.
Volunteered at J Bar CC Ranch Camp in Colorado as horse wrangler, lifeguard and nature guy.
As my Father and Grandfather before me, I bought a Harley in 1996 and have traveled back and forth and up and down the United States.
I am a Life Member of the American Quarter Horse Association and was a ring steward at AQHA horse shows in Colorado and Wyoming from the mid 70's - early 90's.
In 1989 I was in a play called TRACERS, about VietNam. In the next 19 years I have enjoyed being cast in a variety of plays on stage with Cheyenne Little Theatre Players, Laramie County Community College, and University of Wyoming.
In December, 2002 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Through the hard work of the medical staff of the Cheyenne/Denver VA and CU Medical School I am still going.
I currently live South of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming on a place I am fixing up. Living with me are Nell Rey Te, a quarter horse mare, and Katie a Border Collie/Australian Shepard cow dog.
