Gordon's Story
Life
After High School, I went to college for a couple of years, then in an effort to stay out of Viet Nam, enlisted in the Army and played drums in the 371st Army Band in Kansas and then in the 30th Army Band in Germany for a total of three years. I was married for about two years after my discharge from the Army to a local woman named Toni Kochicas. No children from that marriage. After that, I traveled extensively, covering much of the US, playing music with a number of different bands. Then in 1982, after a phone conversation with my sister who had lived on the west coast since the mid 70's, I packed up everything I could and came to the Bay Area of Northern California in 1982. rom time to time. Who knows? I might get back into it one of these days. I'm married, and have one daughter attending UC Santa Barbara as a sophomore this year and another daughter who graduated from UC Santa Barbara last year. I also have a stepson who is married and lives in nearby San Jose.
School
I grew up on the west side of Beloit with my parents and an older sister. I attended Royce Elementary, followed by Lincoln Junior High and then BMHS. A lot of fond memories - especially from high school. My main focus was music and I guess my main circle of friends were from the high school band. Donald Cuthbert, the high school band director was a primary influence in my teenage years - I feel honored to have been a part of that organization - he was tough, but very wise. I have been fortunate to have been able to reconnect with a number of my old friends from high school band over the years - are we ever going to have another reunion? The last one I attended was our 20th - I think there may have been one more after that which I did not attend.
