Grace's Story
Life
Since BHS I have been married and divorced more than once. Have a daughter Aubrey ('88). Joined the USAF (82-86). Lived in Colorado Springs,CO; Topeka,KS; Clovis,NM; Phoenix,AZ; and now back in Hutchinson KS. I am still working in the career that the USAF trained me for. I scrub and assist in surgery. Spine/Neuro-Orthopaedics to be specific.
Military
I joined the USAF in August of 1982. Entered with a sure job as a para-legal..........in typical military fashion.........I found myself scanning lists of other jobs as my 'sure thing' had been disolved while at Basic Training. vilian sector. After basic....Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls TX for training in this yet unknown career I chose under stress and lots of pacing by my Drill Sgt. Unknown to me my abilities in tech school and recommendations by instructors earned me an assignment to the Academy in Colorado Springs. I spent my tour in one of the most desired assignments the AF has to offer. When Graham-Rudman bill was passed we were told re-enlist or seperate with no guarantees of career fields or duty stations. I opted not to play the AF game and I seperated in May 1986. I often look back to those 4yrs with the fondest of memories! 20yrs later....I am still scrubbing in surgery. Fate is an amazing player in our lives.
