Grace's Story
Since losing my husband in 2011, I have been back to Hawthorne a few times. In 2011 with my sister Jane, and brother Jim, & his wife and then again in 2012 with Jane on our way to Nova Scotia....A trip into the city (my how that has changed over the years), was fun...glad we rode the bus instead of driving !!!!! Still able to drive up to see family in TN and DE...I remember when I thought 50 was ancient, and here I am ready to turn 71.......Where have the years gone? If anyone knows, please share...........
Well, here we are in 2014..time sure does fly by...My daughter and her husband are moving to Las Vegas in October, and have asked me to go with them...I said "why not?" so off I will go.. A new adventure in my old age...I like the idea of moving, but I don't like the idea of the actual move. Been out west many times, and really liked it..A bit different to move there, but lots to do, and new places to see.
April 19, 2014.....and the story continues...I have sold my humble abode and will be moving out of here some time in early May...Will go to my daughters and we will leave there early July....VEGAS BABY !...so looking forward to the move...but the packing is awful...where is a packing elf when you need one?
July 23, 2014.....Here I am in Vegas ! So far, so good....My, my but it is hot here...111 normally in the daytime..85 at nite...whew, this will take a bit of getting used to...Florida was hot, but not this hot, and the rain....no rain here, that's for sure. Moved into an apartment complex for 55+..nice and quiet, close to everything one could need....I will miss my friends in Florida, and as soon as I get unpacked, I will make new ones. that's all for now, Grace

Jan 4, 2015.....Been in Vegas 5 + months and I must say that I really like it here ! A very 'senior friendly' place to live. So much to do that doesn't involve a casino ! So much to see within an hours drive...taking a cruise to ALASKA in Sept. New Year, New Place, New Adventures.....
Wow, Sept 2015 . Where has this year gone to? Took my cruise, got rained on every day..Could use some of that in Las Vegas! Had some visitors come stay a bit. happy to see them arrive, happy to see them leave...still enjoying my life he...Expand for more
re, nothing to complain about, really ! Retirement for me is grand.....
Almost Christmas !
Dec 14, 2015 and getting ready to spend my 2nd Christmas in Las Vegas. It's quite cold now, but I am enjoying the change of seasons after being in FL for so many years, and missing that. One would think that I would run into Frank Malzone amongst this throng of a million people, but not yet.....
Oh my, into 2016 already ! May 31, and my daughter and son-in-law and myself are purchasing a new home in Las Vegas. We are drowning in paperwork ! It will be all done on June 15 , and onto another adventure...We will be in North Las Vegas, a ways from the strip, but can see it from the 2nd floor of our house ! Quite near Nellis AFB and will get to see them fly in formation quite often, we hope....I will miss the convenience of apartment living, but this too shall pass........
Sept 29, 2016 and the weather is finally cooling off a bit...when one thinks 85 is cool, that tells you what the summer was like.....be careful what you wish for, the jets are quite loud when they pass over our area, but at least they vanish quickly...When I was in the apartment I was in the fly zone for McCarren airport, the they were so low my walls shook ! Not missing that, I can tell you...A bit sad knowing I cannot jump in my car and drive to visit my family on the East Coast. The flight is very long (did that last year) and the plane was pretty tight.....not fun...but you gotta do, what you gotta do......bloom where you are planted, so they say.....
AHH May 2020, where have the years gone? We had the hottest May ever in LV, already 112 this week.....and it's not summer yet !!! After having flown every year to the East coast, this year i will drive....you are never to old to do what you want ! Hope to be going in Sept., Taking my trusted Toyota, and stopping in TN to visit my brother JIm and his wife, then on to DE to see my 2 older sisters, and MAYBE sister Ruth and I will drive up to Ottowa Canada to visit our youngest sister Jane.., with a visit to Hawthorne as well.....Hopefully the Virus will not stop us this time...We were doing that in the spring, but we all know what happened then...Enjoying life and doing what I can, while I can....
