Grant's Story
Life
I graduated from Ohio Univ. in 1997 and from The Univ. of Akron School of Law in 2000. After 4 and a half years of practice as an attorney, I left it all behind. I'm now a law professor. I also am an adjunct professor of government at the university. I also coach the university's mock trial and moot court teams (National Finalists this year). Dang, man, I'm busy. In my free time, I wonder how I have any free time.
I went to New Orleans in March 2007 to do clean up/construction work over Spring Break and I'm so glad I went on this trip. I am amazed at the number of people (college students, mostly) who gave up their Spring Break to do something for the greater good. I was sad to leave because there was so much left to be done. I've posted a few pictures I took while I was there. My church is planning a return trip and I can't wait to go back. There are folks who do this year round and who serve the folks who come down to help. God bless the NOAH Project! What an amazing group of loving, Christian folks.
I got married in '04 to Katy Schick, a '97 Mentor grad. She is my best friend and my principal source of laughter. She's the greatest. Beautiful, intelligent, artistic, talented, eminently punkish. I am truly blessed and I have to thank God for every good thing I have.
I don't have any children and I have no desire to have them. (Is that bad?) I always see or find out about our classmates having kids and I constantly wonder: are we really that old that some of us are already two or three giant leaps into parenthood? The unfortunate answer is, "Yes, we're that old."
The survey questions they ask you to complete on this website are horrifically trite. So I've decided to do a small version of my own. Afterall, one of the reasons why people fork over the dough for this site is to be a known or unknown voyeur on the lives of their peers. I've ponied up the dough so I'll pony up some info.
Things I love in...Expand for more
no particular order: Alaska, Idaho (the Sawtooth Mountains--wow!), God, my wife, my job, white-water rafting, snowmobiles, waverunners and anything else that goes fast enough to kill you on impact, philosophy, books by Ravi Zacharias and C.S. Lewis, x-box 360 and any game beginning with "Tom Clancy" in the title, Guitar Hero II, dark chocolate, opera, did I mention dark chocolate?, the study of law, coaching mock trial and moot court, reading, burning things, fireworks, the smell of campfires, Virginia sunsets, NASCAR, photography, my wife's punkishness, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, DeBussy's Clare de Lune, Christmas, Easter, the Bible, log cabins, a sleeve of ink, rocking chairs, the sound of a baby laughing, anything trivia related, boats, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Vermont, lightning, college wrestling, college football, the Buckeyes!, four-wheel drive, Cabela's and all cold-weather gear, shopping online for Christmas presents, the sound of racecar engines, empty golf courses, Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, the University's parking lot when the students are gone, chewing gum and peanut M&M's--not together, of course. Finally, the Milton Milkshake from the Drowsy Poet and the I.C. Carmel from Panera--life changing stuff!
Goals in life: Move to the mountains of Montana and shop for cold weather gear at Cabela's, a published book, leaving a perfectly functional airplane by parachute, first place in a poetry contest, two snowmobiles--his and hers, 50+ acres of property, a week of driving in the Richard Petty driving experience, hike and photograph the Scottish highlands whilst quoting great lines from Braveheart, three words: polar bear club--came close in Idaho...39 degrees, first place in a photography contest, die before my wife does so I don't have to lose her, hike and photograph Denali, ride a manta ray, dolphin, whale or some other large aquatic creature, keep my hearing, read enough books to be smart like Ravi Zacharias and C.S. Lewis.
