Graydon's Story

Life I started grade 1 at Albert St. School in Bolton, then after Elwood Memorial was built, I started grade 2 on the south hill. Then, with no high school in Bolton at the time, grade 9 was at Bramalea Secondary School and while Mayfield was being built, grgade 10 was on the afternoon shift of the day at Central Peel in Brampton. The rest of my high school years were at the new Mayfield Secondary. I started working at Canada Cartage at 15, going from a helper position to middle management before retiring at 47. I married Gail at 22 and have 3 children Mark, Paul, and Catherine all on their own, away from the nest. Mark got married and they had a daughter, Paul stayed single and Catherine got married and had 3 children. Family is very important to me. I wrestled at a semi pro level for a while for the NWA with Maple Leaf Wrestling, but had to give it up because in that day, you needed the weight to compete and I was labelled a "hard gainer". Although I never lost a match, I didn't have the weight at the time to carry on and was far less in weight to compete in the heavy weight class. I enjoyed this success over the six and a half years very much. I ran for the provincial nomination for candidate in Etobicoke Lakeshore for the PC party in the 1994 election. I didn't win, but didn't finish last either. I walked away with a smile and threw a nice party. I met a lot of nice people, a few customers of mine that also supported me and still keep in touch to this day. I have thought about running again, either as a Councillor municipally or for MPP, but have decided I'd leave this to the younger folk, so I can relax in a semi retired state in my riper years. . I started Graydon Logistics in 1999 by doing moving jobs, delivering furniture and appliances, along with other freight throughout Ontario. Reasonable, reliable and responsible, that's me. Since, I expanded to doing inter-continental moves throughout Canada & USA. If it is service you want, I am the "go too" guy. If you want to determine your movers choice by price, lots of those guys out there. You get what you pay for. I do moving and back hauls from across Canada and the USA as well. I like starting with nothing but an idea, and making something quite substantial. My concept of being successful is being completely happy. I started with a few small contracts like Samuel Steel, The Bombay Company, The Learning Enrichment Foundation and expanded my contracts with DSM, Hoopla, Evanov Radio Group and Heritage Village in Markham. I coordinated the logistics in such charitable projects like the Winnipeg Flood relief, the Eastern Ontario - Quebec Ice Storm in the 90's and the Haiti Tornado Relief projects. . I was also Transportation and Distribution Specialist with the title of COO for the Technology for Learning Community Centre. We took truck loads of old computers from businesses, tore them down, rebuilt them, reprogrammed them and put them into schools at no cost to the tax payer. I think I was involved in placing just over 96,000 computers around Ontario. I was a member of Lions International and was a member in good standing with the Toronto Doctors Lions Club, the immediate past president n the late 90's. I do a lot of communi...Expand for more
ty work within my club as well as throughout the district. I also am a member of the Barter Network and am about to join the High Park BNI. I have held many positions in the district with Lions from Dog Walk Chair for the Lions Foundation of Canada, Special Events coordinator, CNE Lost Children Chair, CanAm MC, Youth Exchange Chair, Special Events Chair, and Chair of the Lions CNE Peewee Baseball Tournament at the Ex. I get a kick out of helping and empowering others. I started the refreshment booth at Coronation Park that serves the annual baseball tournament during the CNE. I have received many awards for my community service, from Toronto Police, The International Directors award, District Governors Award, to my prize award being the Helen Keller Fellowship Award. I was head of the servers guild with the parish of St. Olave's Anglican Church in Toronto. Before retiring from that position, I use to take the odd service and preach sermons throughout the year, do healing services and anoint people, coordinate and provide training for Servers and Lay Readers within the parish. I am licensed for taking funerals, anointing the sick and shut-ins as well as administering the chalice at Holy Communion. I believe this was always my call. Upon retiring in late Feb. 2020, I was given the position of Parish Verger. I enjoy writing books and documents and have written a Handbook for Servers and Lay Readers. My next venture is writing a book that would include the services of Morning Prayer and Holy Communion in braille for the seeing impaired. However, I'm not sure this will happen, as my time is limited. I have done lots of motivational speaking on a number of topics, to quite a number of people. I have just prepared a proposal for the Gardner Expressway alternative for city council. Tornto City Council already had what they considered a better plan, so my plan was shelved. I believe I was placed in this world to serve, and this is what I do very well. No price is too low for good, exceptional service. I feel if you touch this world in a gentle way, it will touch you back that very same way. I don't think I have done too bad for a grade 12 grad. Thanks for reading my profile. I hope some acquaintances from the past will take some time from their busy schedule to say, "Hello". Cheers, Graydon. Workplace - started with Canada Cartage Systems at the age of 15. Started as a helper on the Sears contract and worked my way up to a middle management level - remained there for 32 years before retiring the first time at age 47. - went to Home & Rural Appliances for two years. They went broke. so I retired again - started my own trucking business full time in 1996 doing residential and commercial moving jobs, hauling furniture and freight, and am also licenced for tanker work as well, any where in Canada and USA. My motto is reasonable, reliable and responsable, just like our customers. When I give you a quote, the final invoice, based upon actual time, never exceeds the quote. My guarantee and promise. I am in excellent health and hope retire or sell my business in 2013 and continue to help others with social and family problems. I do lots of charity work within the community. Isn't life grand?
