Greenbrier's Story

Greenbrier is from Buckhannon, West Virginia. Greenbrier's schools include Buckhannon - Upshur High School. Greenbrier later attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. Greenbrier works(ed) at Upshur County Board Of Educatrion, Applachian Community Health Center, U.s. Department Of Veterans Affairs. One of Greenbrier's favorite quotes is:"I am extremely grateful to the voters of Upshur County for providing me with a plurality of votes and entrusting me with a seat on the Board of Education. I pledge to work hard to fulfill my responsibilities to our children and build upon the quality of their public education, which is so vital for our community’s success in the 21st Century. I am also deeply impressed by our community spirit and our political process. After the untimely death of Aubrey Wilson, six community members stepped forward to run for the unexpired term on the Upshur County Board of Education. Running for elected office, being held accountable in the market place of ideas and public opinion, requires distinct courage and depth of character. I want to thank my fellow candidates for affording me a respectful audience and inspiring me with their unique approaches to the position. I hope to earn the confidence of their voters and incorporate the valuable ideas articulated during this election. My gratitude is also extended to individuals and institutions that are the fabric of our community. Bunny Mow organiz...Expand for more
ed a public forum for the candidates to express why we ran and to answer questions about our philosophy of education. It is my hope that future elections will include iteration of this well-attended gathering at the new Academy Elementary School Art Room. The newspaper coverage that followed was both fair and balanced. To top off the effort to improve the election process, Professor Rob Rupp’s Political Science seminar class interviewed each of us candidates in some depth. Then they put us on TV. We were streamed continuously on channel 22, W.V. Wesleyan’s educational access channel as well as viewed several times on Channel 3, our local access channel operated by Mountain State Video Imaging. Up close and personal, it was a study in how democracy works! In closing, I am indebted to the example of community involvement exhibited by Aubrey Wilson, who in addition to being an advocate for Upshur County children also served as a strong promoter of our Farmer’s Market and former King of the Strawberry Festival. Aubrey reminded us that the process to building a better community begins at home with each of its members. For all who love and care for our children, our future, we move forward together. Sincerely, Dr. Greenbrier Almond". More about Greenbrier:"Having survived a major truck wreck in 2005, now working at projects that engage me and working down my "bucket list" but healthy and curious about LIFE!".
