Greg's Story
Life
After graduating from UW in 1968, Greg spent two years at sea as an Oceanographer, then married Connie (BSRN-UW) in 1970. Their honeymoon was two years in the Peace Corps in El Salvador, Greg taught commercial fishing and Connie worked in a local medical clinic.
We moved back to Seattle to study Chemical Engineering and do grad work Food Engr. & Fisheries. Then while Connie managed medical practices and did an MBA at UPS, Greg traveled most of the time working on engineering projects in Alaska, Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Hawaii and Japan, and flew in aerobatic competitions.
We moved to Brazil in 85 to manufacture process equipment for a Swedish outfit, then back to the states in 87 for international project engineering work in Mexico, central Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Japan, Poland, Uzbekistan, Chile, and a few other tourist spots; first for Frigoscandia out of Seattle, then...Expand for more
for FMC Corp. from Fresno, CA, and later for APV plc from Chicago. We moved back to Brazil in 93 to run APV South America, an equipment engineering and manufacturing outfit, then to Seattle and Connecticut in 98 for a subsidiary of Mannesmann, a German based manufacturer. Meanwhile, Connie managed clinics and became a world-class cook and a pretty good sailor. In 2000 we moved once again to Brazil to run an Italian based automotive robot welding engineering and manufacturing company, and to fish on weekends.
We returned to Puget Sound country in 2003, and after all these 17 moves decided to buy a HOME on the beach in Olympia. But we have now rented it out, moved once again to California to invest in and manage another equipment manufacturing outfit for a few more years, and sail on San Francisco Bay.
One of these days we'll sell out, retire back to the beach house, remodel the kitchen, and kick back.
