Greg's Story
Life
After high school I attended Mt.Hood CC for a short time with the intention of going into law enforcement. After riding with a sheriff's deputy, I decided I didn't have the right temperament for the job. I had always expected to be a police officer since I was 5 and this decision left me at a loss as to what I should do with my life. I saw a USN commercial with the slogan " join the Navy and see the world", and that is what I did.
I joined the Navy in 1979 and got out in 1983. I spent most of my time assigned to ships based in Yokosuka, Japan. I did get to see a good portion of the world, some of my favorites being Japan, the Philippines and Australia.
After I got out of the Navy I took a government aptitude test for Air Traffic Control. I was hired by the FAA in 1984, and made it through the ATC academy in OKC. I worked in Utah, Colorado and Eastern Oregon before finally making it back to Gresham in 1988. I am eligible for retirement, but will probable work until mandatory retirement in 2015.

oys. I met Carolyne through her sister Julie(class of 1979). We were pen pals while I was in the Navy.
My wife and I have been married for over 20 years. I can't believe she has been able to put up with me all these years, she deserves some kind of award.
Another milestone was our oldest son Adam graduating from Barlow and heading for the University of Oregon. Our middle son Andrew is a sophomore at Barlow. He will be joined by his younger brother Alexander in 2011. Between my 3 sons and their older cousins, there will be Gleason boys at Barlow for 17 straight years.
Workplace
I'm still working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Air Traffic Controller. I have been doing this since 1984, and I plan to continue until I have to retire in November of 2015.
I am currently working in Seattle at the Boeing Field Airport/King County International. I still live in Gresham so I have to commute to Seattle each week. I don't enjoy being away from my family so much, but it is better than having to move, and hopefully it won't be for too long. (4 years and counting!)
