Greg's Story
Life
Wow, I survived the last 30 years, and living a good life. Still playing piano for a living, from cruise ships to TV shows, worked in LA with Shaka, some mowtown acts, been on the bus, and have met some very interesting cats. In 88, my father died so I came back to Md. and have been here ever since, playing at various night spots, and was even a stadium organist for the Baysox. Seems my music has taken me down many avenues. However, with all these experiences, I really never understood the power of music until I subbed for a fellow pianist in an Alzheimer's ward. Cats like my father and good old Mr. Shoup, helped me develop a knack for the music of the 20's. With this,I am able to reach people with demencia. How Ironic to find myself preffering music therapy over the limelight. Yes folks, things change. I still perform Elton John songs etc.at random night spots from country clubs to dives, but thats the music business, you get it all. ...Expand for more
Also, I play with 4 Klezmer bands on weekends, in DC. One of them has been rated the top Jewish music ensemble in the area for the past 3 years.
I never married and have no children ( and know it)though I came close, twice. Life's curve balls out of my control defeated the wedding bells. So, I keep ticklin' the ivories.
I live in Columbia, Md. because its as close to an alternative life style as I can find in the area. Columbia is located perfectly between DC. and Baltimore, though the Skins are the hometeam here. I take 1 class every semester at HCC. They really have excellent teachers. Usually fine arts, astronomy,or philosophy-stuff like that-but I also have taken piano lessons there believe it or not. 2 of the instructors have Doc's from Juliard. So, for $20/hr., I just cannot resist.
Well, thats life for now, not a bad one for a funky old kid from Linthicum. Hope 2 c one and all at the 30 yr reuniun.
Be Well.
