Greg's Story
Life
As of 5/8/2011 I still live at 1813 26th Ave S in Fargo, ND 58103 with My wonderful wife Rae of 40+ yrs and 3 cats. Ragdoll "Sasha", Selkirk Rex "Maxwell"and Persian "Simon"
Rae works at Sanford Health here in Fargo and has just now taken a new job as Clinic Insurance Manager. Whenever I talk to people who work under Rae , they all tell me how they LOVE working with her because she is so wise , fair, kind and knowledgeable. Rae never takes credit, but I know what it means to have a civil atmosphere to grow and learn and cooperate in. [Rae had umpteen hours of training tryimg to survive me all these years, so I suppose I should get some credit for her proficiency] I tell the checkouts at the grocery store and as many other I come in touch with that I have a FANTASTIC wife. I told Rae that when I die the only thing I want people to remeber is that I was blessed by her presence.
After working for Goldmark Property Mgmt. for almost 15 yrs, I accepted a position as Buildings & Grounds Manager for State Bank & Trust here in Fargo in Dec 2005. I love my work helping others all day. (Rae has finally cleared me from the "abject workaholic" classification)
My son Chris and his wife Maureen live in Fargo. Chris works at Accenture doing work for Microsoft ( I never know exactly what he does cuz he's a smart guy and all the tech stuff flies over my head) and Maureen works at Sanfors Health as Internal Med receptionist. They recently purchased a home here in Fargo 2613 25th Ave. S. Previously Chris graduated with honors from UND at Grand Forks, worked some, and then went to U of M to complete his MBA. Chris loves to cook and Maureen LOVES "shopping". They have 2 cats (Simba and Franklin) that run much of the houshold. Chris and Maureen are avid readers and love their coffee dates, the Yankees and the Vikings and Sioux hockey (you can leave Maureen out of the last few, they're not as fulfilling as shopping).
Rae's daughter Debbie and Jerry Erickson live across the river in Moorhead, MN with the 3 grandkids Paige, Riley and Hunter. Jerry is an electrician and Debbie is presently working with Sanford Health in transcription. Paige has just completed a couple yrs at MSUM college while Riley and Hunter are being "normal" guys. Riley will be graduating this year from High School.
My son Karring and Hayley Sheldon live in Cold Springs, MN. Hayley and Karring just added a Granddaughter Reyka Lily (Jan 25 2011) to the family. sheis now 3 1/2 and loves to smile. Hayley is a very busy radiologist in St.Cloud after moving up from Alabama. Karring loves to cook and always has projects and ideas on the burner. (He also is an intriguing photographer, but he doesn't get enough time devoted..my ...Expand for more
opinion) Karring's daughter Anna . old in August 2009. She is 6 yrs old goes to school in Kiev, Ukraine with her mother Kerry Monaghan who works with US Aid there. Karring and Anna travel to and from Cold Springs, MN putting on a lot of air miles. Anna speaks Russian but prefers English and has an amazing mind and imagination. Karring graduated with honors from Center College in Kentucky and finished his masters in International Reconstruction at the Hague, Netherlands in 2005 Previous jobs took him to Sanaa,Yemen; Pristina,Kosovo; Bagdad,Iraq; Annecy,France. These were all civilian jobs. Karring's lifestyle has forced us to travel abroad 4 times in the past years. We joined them in Kosovo where we traveled through Macedonia, Albania and down to Greece for one trip and again to Annecy, France when Anna was 2 weeks old. In Feb 2005 we flew in to the Hague and visited again as well as spending 4 days in Paris. In 2007 we visited Kiev around Christmas time.
Rae and I spend some of the weekends in the summer at our camper at Little Toad Campgroung on Little Toad Lake 15 miles East of Detroit Lakes. Rae and I attend First Assemblies here in Fargo. I have been involved in choir and drama. and BSF Bible Study. Rae is an avid reader and enjoys stamping and scrapbooking and photography. She is also Anna's best friend playing imaginary games and stories. (for a woman who thinks she's not creative you should see her scrapboks and hear the imaginative stories that captivate Anna for hours. (and hour and hours) What a gifted wife.
My golf game has now deteriorated Badly after 25 yrs of neglect. I still enjoy it for the few good shots I make when I do get out.
The spring 0f 2008 was busy on many weekend traveling to Grand Forks or Park River for band practice as our band the "Antigue Zoo" reunited for a 40 yr reunion. We now own the "antique" adjective. Bob Alvestad (Grand Forkd, ND) sent out a promotional letter back in the winter of 2008 for a "ZOO Reunion" and Russ Halverson (East Grand Forks), Dayton Larson (Park River) and I signed on to take a shot at it. Dave Bateman is out South on the East coast and wasn't able to make it, but Randy Mastre from Park River is stepping in to handle the drums.
We played July 4th 2009 at a street dance in Park River during the celebration performing a lot of the old tunes plus some others. We have still been paying a few times here and there each year. The Beatles song "When I'm 64" hits pretty close to home now. There WON'T be a world tour.
I have learned recently we will be returning to play a few dates around the 4th of July this year 2011
