Greg's Story
I have retired from my management position with a large food processing plant in Niagara Falls in 2011. That summer saw me slowing down my active lifestyle. I was treated for a severely blocked main artery in my heart, but the angioplasty and stent effectively cured the problem. A month later I was back rowing, my favourite pasttime. I raced in the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston and won my division in October. In November, I rowed my single shell on the Gulf of Mexico and on Lake Lanier, the site of the Atlanta Olympics. My wife, Debbie, is the Managing Producer of TV News at CHCH in Hamilton. We travel to our timeshare unit on the Gulf of Mexico twice a year for two weeks each time...Expand for more
. Daughter Meredith, 37, is a buyer with Target at its Toronto head office with lots of travelling to the Minneapolis HQ, and Gillian, 33, is the Director of The Social, a CTV afternoon national television show. Michael, 35 and married, is a stone mason performing high-end work in the GTA. I recently acquired the Niagara Rowing School in Jordan Harbour and will continue to coach rowing in my own club in the spring and summer, so I guess there is no such thing as a complete retirement. My mother passed away in 2012, at the age of 98 leaving me little reason to visit Port Colborne any more. I am amazed at the lack of growth of our city, with a smaller population in 2014 than there was in 1964.
