Greg's Story
Life
As you may remember, I was that nerdy kid who had a business buying and selling old coins. I was so anxious to go into business that I never made it to college, except to visit Mike Wittenberg and Jay Swift, with whom I've kept in regular contact for the past 25 years, seeing them whenever possible on trips to the Northwest and emailing often.
I moved to Dallas 17 years ago to run a large rare coin company. Today I'm the President and I own the company along with two partners. Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers is the 3rd largest auction house in the world with 250 employees in five countries. We buy, sell, and auction rare coins, currency, rare comics, vintage movie posters, toys, silver, sports and entertainment items, art glass, and paintings. Rare coins are still our focus but we also sold Nicolas Cage's comic book collection, Stan Lee's (the creator of Spiderman) personal comic art archives, and the prototype for the original G.I. Joe. It's a lot of fun to go to work and play with old...Expand for more
coins and toys everyday...OK, everyday is not a lot of fun, but I'm very grateful I got to do my passion for a living.
I've written two books, The Rare Coin Estate Handbook and The Collectors Handbook, not exactly Book of the Month club material but they've been well received and won a book of the year award. I'm in the first year of a three year appointment to a board at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas which is very interesting. I'm active in Young Presidents Organization (YPO) as the Membership Chairman for North Texas and as the Treasurer for The French Heritage Society in Dallas. I collect (and drink) rare wine, American Indian Textiles, modern art glass, and vintage photography. I'm a voracious non-fiction reader and I like exercise, yoga, and bicycling.
I've been married for 15 years to Lysa, a 4th generation Dallasite, non-fiction writer, and former Art History teacher and interior designer. We love to travel when we aren't at home with our 3 year old Wheaten Terrier, Findley.
