Greg's Story
Hi Everyone.
I had always just glanced at this web site over the years, but this year I decided to take the plunge and go "gold" in the hopes of looking up old classmates and possibly re-connecting with old friends. I can't believe that it's been 30 years since graduating from Willow Glen High. I have very fond memories of all my jr. high and high school experiences. I made a lot of friends and had the best of times. After high school real life set in and most of everyone I knew drifted away starting their own life adventures. I was lucky enough to marry my "high school sweetheart" (although she actually attended Leigh High). We met during my senior year (I was 18 and she was 17) when I took a part time job at a local fast food joint. It was love at first sight! We dated for seven years and were finally married in 1985. We'll be coming up to our silver wedding anniversary (25 yrs.) in 2010 -- Wow! I can't believe it's been that long. Although, we were married at a relatively young age, we were never blessed with having any children until a couple of years go. In 2003, after much help through the wonders of medical science, we were blessed with twin boys. They are five now, and in their last year of pre-school. It will be on to kindergarden next year. Boy how time flies, it seems like only yesterday that I was holding them in my hand at the hospital (literally, because the were premies and they only we...Expand for more
ighed 3 lbs. each).
I was born and raised in San Jose, and my wife, myself and our kids still live, work and play in San Jose, and my parents still live in Willow Glen.
I had a lot of crazy jobs as a teenager and young adult (as I'm sure that a lot of kids did growing up). I've worked in fast food, I was a line cook, worked in retail for a bit, I also was employed as a geographer. When my spending habits outweighed my earning potential (hey -- dating and keeping up appearances wasn't cheap), I went to work with my dad, and we formed the first design-build construction firm in San Jose. We ran a successful company together for ten years. Once he retired, I no longer wanted to run the whole company, so I re-tooled our operation and started an architectural design firm. Through my experiences with our construction and architectural firms I've been involved in the building trade industry for over 25 years now. In between all that, I also spent yen years working for the City of San Jose Development Services Department. I took early retirement from the City in 2006, and now devote all of my working life to promoting and growing my architectural business. The rest of the time I spend with my family (as you can imagine, twin boys keep us extremely busy).
I'd love to re-connect with old friends and classmates, so let's chat. Send me an email either here or to my personal email account. gsybarra at yahoo dot com.
