Gregg's Story
Life
Joined the navy a year after high school. While in the navy became an alcoholic. Also used more than my share of drugs. In 1978 I accepted Jesus as my Lord and have been drug and alcohol free since. While my life is far from perfect, it sure beats the alternative. I am head of security for a local high school and try to help the teens of today avoid mistakes by sharing my past with them. Married for over 30 years, 3 children and 3 grandchildren. Live in Montgomery Village, Maryland (suburb of Washington, DC.)and would love to hear from some voices from the past.
Over the past two years I have become addicted to something very bad that is costing me a lot of money and time. The good news is that it is GOLF. I am not very good (but as much as I play I have managed to improve a little), but that does not stop me from hitting the links every chance that I get. Look for me on the senior tour in a few years!!
School
Biggest crush was during 8th grade. I had it bad for a senior cheerleader, I think her name was Iris Lewis. Mrs. Long had the greatest effect on me and I guess that was why english was my favorite subject. If I could do it all over again I guess there are a couple of things that I would do different. I know now that I should have gotten more involved in activities, maybe my life would have taken a different cour...Expand for more
se, maybe not. I would like to think that I would not be as big a jerk to the girls that I dated. Apologies to the girls that I treated so badly. Wish I could contact each one individually and tell them. Happiest time was when I was dating my first love - still think about SLR every now and again. Just like most people I enjoyed cruising from the Moo Dairy Queen, Burger Chef and Big Boy. Crazy thing was staying up all night drinking and then coming to school still pretty much wasted - don't know why the teachers didn't say anything. Senior year was pretty much a blur, another regret that I have but something that I use to talk to the kids that I work with now.
Workplace
After graduating did six years in the navy. Went to Cal. to strike it rich, back to Mississippi in 9 months (Did not strike it rich)and went to work in the shipyard. Moved to MD and worked for a defense contractor for 7 years then worked for 3 years for another gov. contractor. Laid off from there and then things became interesting. I worked for an electrician (digging ditches was not fun), painted interiors and exteriors of houses and even owned my own sports card business. Started working for the school system after that as special ed instructional assistant and worked my way up the ladder to where I am today as head of security at one of the local high schools.
