Gregory's Story
Life
As soon as I graduated from high school I went into the Navy. I spent two years in service schools and four years as a missile technician on a ballistic missile submarine. After my enlistment, I went to college at the University of Massachusetts and completed a degree in electrical engineering. Simultaneously, I enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard and was commissioned as an infantry officer through officer candidate school. I worked as an engineer for several years while also serving in the National Guard. In 2001, I was asked to deploy to Bosnia with...Expand for more
my former division. I was training with them on 11 September 2001 at Ft. Dix, NJ during the terrorist attacks. Since Ft. Dix was the closest military installation to NYC, we became a focus point for material and personnel into ground zero. Needless to say, all of it had a very large impact on my life, to the point where I turned down an engineering management position at ConEd in NYC to go back onto active duty with the Army.
I am currently a major working with the Center for Army Lessons Learned and travel around the world observing military operations and training.
