Gregory's Story
Hello,
A lot has happened over the last thirty years since leaving Greenon. To tell the truth folks when I left Greenon, I didn't look back for a very long time. My first two years were bad and my last two were much better and set up a mostly great time for college at Wright State University. Time is kind though and now I can look back and accept things for what they were.
What have I been doing the last 30 years. I went to Wright State and got a 4 years Liberal Arts Degree. Got a job with the Air Force as a contract Negotiator, and moved Oklahoma City were I met the mother of my five wonderful children Mikal (23), Joshua (21), Esther (15), Susanna (12), James (9),and was married to for 22 years. I stayed in Oklahoma for five years.
I then took a job with the Navy at China Lake California. I was a Contract Specialist doing research and development contracting for electronics and munitions. This was one of the most satisfying but stressful jobs I had, my replacement lasted all of three months before they took a medical retirement for stress! The g-force sensors on your car, and the initiator for the explosive charge in airbag system are commercialized versions of things I help develop. Good things seldom last though and I move...Expand for more
d after being laid off back to Ohio with my family.
I took a job in Ohio doing international contracting for the Air Force's foreign military sales program as a contractor with SAIC. Several years later I was doing enviromental contracting for SAIC in Dublin OH until I was laid off after 9/11
Since then I've work on an assembly line, driven a forklift, worked in a warehouse, got several articles published, and started my own business selling parts and accessories for Civil War era muskets.
Alas, the fickle finger of fate pointed at me agin and I found myself single again after 20 some years.
The business went to finance the split, and I got a with Uncle Sam again with DLA as a Contracting Officer. It's a little ironic that I find myself here 30 years later doing close to the same job when I left, and that some of the very thing I buy go into the Army Stryker AFV's my son Joshua uses in Iraq. Some could say its a circle , but I like to say its a spiral that is going higher.
I have 5 great kids out of this. I know my work saved lives, and the other stuff I got to see used live on TV on CNN and Fox. My new job is great and and I have much to be thankful for. Well that 30 years in a nutshell.
