Gregory LaMont's Story
Greetings to all friends from the Conant Gardens!
My parents (George and Mildred) move to Healy Street in 1954. I attended Atkinson from '55-'62, then on to Cleveland (Home Room 219 w/Mr. Johnson).
Graduated in 1968 from Pershing (Mr. Trupiano was my mentor), and then "hit the block" with my 1966 Mustang. I married my great high school sweetheart in 1971, however We were simply too young and divorced in 1979.
Worked at Chrysler’s Lynch Road Assembly ('68-71') and then Fisher Body’s Fleetwood (GM) from '71-'73 when a co-worker confirmed to me what my father couldn't and I escaped the factories!
In 1974, I joined the City of Detroit (law enforcement) and headed for Wayne State Universit...Expand for more
y and continued on with the City until I retired in 1998.
From 1971 forward, I've been a "life-long" learner and into the books! I "lucked up" and taught at The University of Michigan from '96-'07, part-time, during my last few years with the City. Since leaving the City, I've been working full-time in HR management for a not-for-profit organization (SEMCOG) based in Detroit.
I've been greatly blessed to have worked in areas that I've enjoyed and many great life experiences (wine, travels, and song!) to compliment the many GREAT memories of The Gardens and the friends that grew up with me. I do hope to hear from many of you. I can simply close my eyes and see each of you with fondness!
