Guy's Story

Life I retired 12 years ago after 34 years of College Teaching. I was an Associate Professor of Theatre with a specialty in Scenic and Lighting design.I designed over a hundred stage sets and also designed stage lighting for modern dance and ballet. My son Ian and his wife Kerri are both professional actors and the only theatre I do these days is going to their shows. Their son Calder was born in 2007 and is a joy to us all. When not acting Ian is a professional art handler and Kerri teaches theatre at a private school in Washington D.C. My wife's daughter Tina is an attorney and last year quit the high powered law firm wher she had worked for four years and now hunts international war criminals for the Department of Justice Office of Special Investigations. She became a single mom last year and her son Archer and my grandson Calder are good buddies and play together. They all live on Capitol Hill in D.C. I have an interest in World War II history especially the 8th Air Force and the Merchant Marine. My Father sailed T-2 tankers and my Father in Law was commanding General of the 94th Combat Bomb Wing of the 8th Air Force and was a combat commander and B-17 pilot. I have family connections to the Civil War,my greatgrandfather Henry was a member of the 7th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry (also known as The Sabre Regiment)who defeated Nathen Bedford Forrest and captured Jefferson Davis. His brother Volney was a member of the 41st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry(12th reserves) and fought at 1st and 2nd Manassas (Bull Run to us Northeners), Gettysburg,Antietem,South Mountain and Petersburg. He was a POW from 1864 to 1865. My wife Page s...Expand for more
tarted an animal rescue group and we have a seperate cattery which is heated, air conditioned and has sunrooms and skylights. We also have many indoor cats and feed and house three ferals. I am a long distance cyclist and have cycle toured both in the US and Europe. I am a member of the International Human Powered Vehicle Association and the league of American Bicyclists. I own altogether too many bicyles (9 at last count) ranging from my local go to the store with trailer to my recumbent bikes and trikes. I rode in RAGBRAI 08 (10.000 bicycle wackos riding across the state of Iowa). I did my graduate work at the University of Iowa and saw more of Iowa in one week than I saw in three years of graduate school. My son and I rode a two week self contained trip fro his birthplace Alton,IL to Columbia MD. when he was 13 and I was 39...two weeks and 1389 miles. He still commutes by bicycle in D.C. When I have to drive my Prius gets me there in style and with great mileage. I have raced semi streamlined recumbent bikes in Ohio and placed third in type class. I do most local travel and shopping with my bike and trailer. I've carried over 60# of cat food and litter that way but for sheets of plywood(purchased at the local used building materials place) I use the car. We live in College Park MD just north of Washington,D.C. We are literally on the edge of the University of Maryland campus. I do a lot of work on our house in terms of decorating and environmental improvements. Our house was featured in the Washington Post as an example of creative renovation and design. We use a lot of passive solar in our heating and shading in our cooling.
