Gwin's Story
Life
I tried getting myself a dog as soon as I moved out in 2000 and got myself a townhome. But he didn't come from a very good breeder and he had too many health problems. So I went back and did a little research on how to go about it right. I got myself a Harrier (like a smaller English Foxhound)from a good, reputable breeder in 2002 and he's a real good, nice, healthy pet. His name is Ace, neutered, and likes to go on walks, meet everyone, and run and play with other dogs. I also tried a little agility and rally obedience with him, but all he has achieved with me was getting a Canine Good Citizen title in the fall of 2003.
I also got myself an Apple eMac to play on. I like to do e-mail/Internet, iPhoto, and Adobe Photoshop on it; but I also found out about Apple iTunes where you can either buy music from their online store and/or import songs from CDs (build up a music library) and create playlists. You can even get yourself an iPod (if you have the money)to put all your music on.
I'm also subscribing to the Sat. Dish Network, where I especially like to watch Animal Planet, Travel Channel, and on occasion (if there's something good on)VH-1. They sometimes keep repeating the same old programs (that's what you get with cable or satellite TV).
In the past six years I have vacationed at least twice in London and Great Britain. I got to see a few of the major London sights (including Hard Rock Cafe), Stonehenge, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Edinburgh; to name a few. I also stayed overnight at Ruthin Castle in Wales and attended a medevial banquet.
I went on a couple of little vacation trips to foxhound shows in Kentucky and Virginia. Last year (2004) I went on a big Amtrak trip out west to Glacier and Yosemite National Parks. I really liked visiting the latter and I would like to go back there someday. (Mariposa Co., Calif.)
School
My favorite memory from Kirkwood High School is going on the Close-Up trip to Washington, D.C. via TWA Airlines in November, 1984. I liked a few of the activities, esp. the side trip to Williamsburg, Va. I also met a yound man on the trip from suburban Oakland, Calif. that I pen pal-ed with for a year or so after high school. Another one of my favorite memories is going on a couple of field trips with Mr. H. Page's World Geograph...Expand for more
y class to a Japanese restaurant and then a Chinese one. I also liked going to Eberhardt's in Columbia, Illinois with the German club for their annual Christmas Dinner. I think the German restaurant is no longer there.
The things that I would change about high school would be to try taking more math and science instead of computer math, office machines/typing and ceramics. (Maybe A.P. Biology as well) I think that would have helped me out better in preparing for biological studies in college. I shouldn't have felt discouraged after trying to learn math and the physical sciences in the 8th grade. I could have taken Freshman Physics instead of Earth & Space Science. I would also have the Principal get a security/surviellance camera system installed in the high school.
My current hobbies/interests are animal care, photography, and playing & working on this Apple eMac. (Mac OS X 10.4.2)
College
First I tried Biology at Central Missouri State University from 1985-1988 and that didn't work out academically. I then went to St. Louis Community College from 1988 to 1992 and got an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies and a Photo Lab Technician's Certificate. After unsuccessfully looking for job a few years after that, I then attended Webster University from 1995-1997 and got a B.A. degree in Media Photography.
Workplace
I've been working at U.S. Dept of Defense Finance and Accounting as an accounting technician since December, 1997. My job primarily consists of data inputting and processing vouchers for government business trips that many different people make. Some of them got deployed out to places like the former Yugoslavia and the Middle East (several months) and other business trips are for attending conferences/meetings and job training classes/seminars. I've also been attending various job training classes myself onsite in different PC Windows computer applications, including e-mail. The only thing I don't like about my job is whenever we have to work mandatory overtime, especially on Saturdays.
I get e-mail and Internet access at work, but it's primarily for government business use. I get e-mail correspondence from different people at my Federal Agency on different things and the Interent is there to look up private auto mileage for business road trips.
