Bruce's Story

Married Linda Wallace (WMHS Class '66) on 7 Sep 1968 at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church. National Merit finalist at Louisiana Tech, graduating 26 Nov 1969 in Mechanical Engineering. Worked in Engineering Department, Texaco Inc, Port Arthur Refinery (now Saudi Aramco). Linda graduated in Medical Technology from NLU in June 1971 after interning one year at Baptist Hospital, Beaumont, Texas. Served as Field Artillery Surveyor (MOS 82C), HQ Battery, 1st Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery Regiment (105mm Howitzer-Towed), 71st Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, then as Recon Sergeant, S2, HQ Company, 245th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), US Army at Fort Campbell KY, Fort Sill OK, Fort Benning GA, Fort Polk LA, Fort Sam Houston TX, Fort Chaffee AR and Fort Bragg NC. Earned rifle Sharpshooter Badge using iron sights at 400 meters. In 1973, joined a Baton Rouge engineering firm while attending LSU graduate school. Helped design Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Marathon Garyville Refinery, Cajun Electric Cooperative power plants, gas turbine cogeneration plant, GATX Tank Farm at New Sarpy LA, a Resource Recovery Facility in Perham MN and a potato processing plant in Boardman OR (lambweston.com). Attended First Baptist Church, CrossPoint Baptist Church and Bible Study Fellowship in Baton Rouge. We have one son, David, and one granddaughter. POTUS George W. Bush visited David to present letter of appreciation and challenge coin for Civil Air Patrol Hurricane Katrina search-and-rescue in New Orleans. Beginning March 2000, was field construction engineer for optical switchyard of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA (lasers.llnl.gov). NIF is a Department of Energy / Department of Defense nuclear fusion laboratory with 192 of world’s largest, most energetic lasers having combined power over 500 trill...Expand for more
ion watts (terawatts). NIF tests US nuclear stockpile, conducts high temperature & pressure physics experiments and does nuclear fusion research. Fusion energy output first exceeded input on 5 Dec 2022. Dr. Edward Teller, co-founder of Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, personally reviewed construction at the NIF jobsite several times. NIF has been called the most complex facility on the planet and a milestone in human history. It was covered on CBS 60 Minutes: twitter.com/hbwilliamson/status/1615575737758797825?s=46&t=PkegTc6qofAdAStTLyCvdQ The National Ignition Facility is well described in Wikipedia. Diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in August 2011 having six-month prognosis. Largest tumor was 11” x 8”x 3.5” inoperable, on abdominal aorta. Others tumors in pericardium, behind each lung and surrounding esophagus. But God heard the prayers of my righteous wife, Mid-Cities Baptist Church and The Gideons, sending a smart, experienced, capable oncologist, Ana Maria Rojas, M.D. Now cancer-free, praise God, since 2013 after 11 chemotherapy cycles. My life is not my own but is a gift of God's grace (Jeremiah 32:17, 2 Cor. 4:8-9, James 1:2-3, 5:14-16). After 31 years with the company, retired on 2 Jan 2020 as Lead Mechanical Engineer, US West Operations, Jacobs Engineering / Jacobs Consultancy (jacobs.com) and rotating machinery SME (specialist). Jacobs sold this division (Energy, Chemicals & Resources) to WorleyParsons (worley.com) for 3.3 Billion USD. Linda retired 15 Apr 2020 as supervisor of quality control and regulatory affairs at Bio-Rad Laboratories (bio-rad.com). In June 2020 we moved from Orange CA back to Ruston LA. Own and operate commercial radio stations in Northwest Arkansas. Passions are Christian faith, family, The Gideons International (gideons.org), baseball, radio communications and ancestry.
