Hal's Story

Life The most imporatant events in my life since graduation from high school are my relationships. First, the Lord Jesus Christ radically changed my life when I was 22. He has also given me a wonderful wife, and two wonderful sons, Trey and Matt. I was married for thirty-four years to Judy Marie, the love of my life. She was a retired teacher and administrator. Judy was an ovarian cancer patient from July 27, 1999, until her death on February 11, 2009. This adversity made our marriage stronger, and taught us much about the grace of God. My sons and I miss her dearly. You can view her testimony on our church website. Judy and I have two sons, Trey and Matt. Matt was a Division I basketball scholarship recipient, and Trey's interests are almost identical to mine. Both graduated from UT-Dallas; Trey has a degree in Philosophy; Matt majored in neuroscience. Both unmarried, Matt (29) graduated from medical school at UT-Galveston and is now a resident in Internal Medicine at Baylor, Dallas; Trey (30) is a teacher, drummer, and poet and lives in Durango, Colorado, where he devotes his time to fishing, hunting, writ...Expand for more
ing, and teaching, probably in that order. I finished college with a Ph.D. from U.T. in Intellectual History and Comparative Literature. I also have two master's degrees, one in Theology and another in English Literature. My bachelor's degree is in theology. I have spent 35 years of service in various churches and private schools, mostly in Texas; for the past 22 years I have pastored FBC of Parker, Texas. I have also served as a headmaster for several Christian schools. Some of my favorite intellectual interests are Greek, aesthetics, war, and the history of philosophy, particularly as these topics are communicated through classical works of literature, music, and art. I have also written several books, numeorus poems, and musical compositions. My passions are preaching, teaching, writing, and academic studies, particularly theology, English Literature, Philosophy, Charles Darwin, and especially Greek. If I could say one thing to my classmates, it would be this-- "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths."
