Hal's Story

Life It is tricky deciding what to tell someone I haven’t seen in 30 years about myself. Here are a couple quick details about high school. While I grew up in Radnor Township, and went to its schools my entire life, I was an exchange student to Berlin, Germany my junior year and wasn’t around from Fall 74 to Summer 75. I have an older brother Ken who was involved in chorus and theater and graduated in 75, the year I was away. When I came back my senior year, I also mostly hung out with artists, theatre students and musicians. I also wrestled on the Radnor team and wrote for Facets, the literary magazine. After graduating, I attended PSU majoring in education and communications. After switching majors a couple of times over three years, I finally stopped out and worked in construction and maintenance for a couple years before finishing a degree in of all things architectural engineering. I met my wife Cindy Andree in State College in 1981 and we were married three years later. We lived outside of Uniontown, Pennsylvania for two years while I finished school, and our first child, our son Lee, was born there in 1985, two weeks before I graduated. By then, I was also working for a lighting controls company as a marketing manager. Six months later, we moved to Mars, PA into a hundred-year-old house where we live today. Our daughter Amber was born there in 1987. Combining my interests in building and sales I became sales manager for a large homebuilder in the Pittsburgh area and worked there for six years. Around 1992, I became very interested in computers and decided to shift my career in that direction. Microsoft Windows had recently come out and was all the rage. In 1994, I left the home builder and went into computers full-time as a consultant working for sever...Expand for more
al different companies. In particular, I worked for a health care clinic for six years as their network administrator. I have also done a lot of database and some website design. I currently do IT consulting and integration work for a physician service organization at the community hospital in Washington, PA. Geek City!!! Who Knew? But, I honestly define myself much more by what I’ve accomplished as a family man then by the career I've had. I will be married 22 years this summer and consider myself very lucky and blessed indeed. My wife Cindy graduated from PSU with a degree in Fine Arts and works for the Mars School District now after raising our kids. I am very proud of both my kids, and was smart and lucky enough to be involved a lot in their lives as they grew up. Lee is a gifted classical pianist who also enjoyed drama and swimming in school. He is a junior at Susquehanna University studying music education. Amber also swam, performed in marching band, choir and on stage. We just sent her off to Kutztown University this past fall to study marine biology and are experiencing an empty nest for the first time in 20 years. One of my biggest kicks is that they both like a lot of the same music I liked at their age. I've been really lousy at staying in touch with people I knew back at Radnor. I’m just beginning to realize the opportunities that I missed in that, but life is also too short for regrets. Besides, with at least a bit more time on my hands, maybe it’s not too late to reconnect with some of my old friends. So there you have it, 30 years in 700 words give or take. I'm really looking forward to hearing what has happened to folks. The internet and this website are great tools to help make connections. But tools don't work themselves. Drop me a line.
