Hank's Story
Life
After I finished JHS, I did my BA at Jax State and went on to the University of Maine at Orono to do my Masters of Arts in Teaching of French which I finished in 1972. I moved to Fredericton,New Brunsiwck in Canada to teach French in the public school system. I had married in 1973 but divorced in 1984. I came out in 1983 and became very much involed in the local gay community. I helped to pass the amendment to the provincial Human Rights Code to outlaw discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation. S in Atlanta on March 10,1989 and I miss him every day. I taught French here for 28 years and retireed from teaching in October of 2000. I lost my mother on May 5,2001 at the age of 88. I was asked to be verger at Christ Church Cathedral (Anglican=Episcopal) on July 1,2001 and have worked at the job, part-time since then My duties are to set up and look after all services ( which includes weddings, funerals and baptisms as well as the usual services ). It is a job which I love very much. I enjoy reading, gardening, walks, doing calligraphy, worshipping my cat Harry, cooking, and studying other languages.
