Harry's Story

Life If one word could summarize the greatest change in my life since my graduation from Northwestern, it would be responsibility. After trying to work my way through Bowie State College from 1969 through 1974 as an education major, I decided to join the Regular Army for the G.I. Bill and was "seduced". I served as junior enlisted (Armor), Commissioned Officer (Transportation Corps) and finally as a Senior NCO(Cavalry and Military Intelligence) retiring after 22 years of active service in July 1997. Through some bad personal choices, my Commissioned Officer career left a lot to be desired but my love for the Army wouldn't let me go home and be happy as a civilian. While not perfect in the area of equal opportunity, the U.S. Army was the most fair working environment I had ever experienced. I achieved certain personal goals which I doubt would have been achieved otherwise. All said, I got as much out of the Army as I put into it. Perhaps,I owe it my very life! If I can't lay claim to anything else, I'm an unrepentant patriot primarily due to the last 12 years of my military career being in military intelligence. Consequently, I had access to information which normal American citizens wouldn't have access to. Liberalism is a disease that will destroy this country from within. I love George W. Bush and his "daddy"! I was forced to divorce my first wife; Bonita, in 1982 when she failed to adapt to military life and caused me some problems. The Army "issued" me this soldier named Loretta Harviley in August 1987 and on July 8, 1989 we were married. Just like Travis Tritt says, "The Love of a Woman " has kept me very happy ever since. Whenever Billy Joel sings " She's Got A Way", it always brings tears to my eyes as the goodness in this marriage more than makes up for the pain in my first one. We live in Elizabethtown, KY; a small town close to Fort Knox and a very affordable place to live. In September 2009, we paid the mortgage on our home in just over 13 years. Try that in Maryland! I'm a proud old American Legionaire and VFW Life Member. During my career in the Army, I received the Bronze Star Medal for combat in Desert Storm, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Military Order of Saint Barbara, the Military Order of Saint George, the Imjin Scout Award (Korean DMZ), and numerous other awards. Since my retirement from the Army in 1997, I have served in Hardin County, Kentucky as a deputy sheriff. The military had prepared me for this responsibility and I pledge to never unholster my gun against anyone unless I intend to at least either arrest or kill with no forgiveness or playing around at that point. I lost a friend when I explained that use of force philosophy to her but but that's life. In 1954, someone at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in French Indo - China (Viet Nam for those who aren't familiar with history) once wrote on a wall in a bunker something like "FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FOUGHT FOR IT, FREEDOM HAS A TASTE THE PROTECTED WILL NEVER KNOW"! I firmly believe that. The worst thing that ever happened to this country was the deactivation of the draft as there are just too many people who don't know the cost of the freedom which they enjoy while they talk their left wing trash! It is my destiny to be a fighter for the underdog. I know how it feels to be the little guy fighting back for dignity and hon...Expand for more
or. Victory is a relative thing to each combatant. If you give it your best shot, still lose but survive, you can always prepare to fight again with lessons learned! I'm not a good guy to pick a fight with as I never back down and will have serious forgiveness issues with any bully. Even though I'm old enough and have enough time in to retire, I waited so long for a chance to get into law enforcement that I'm not going anywhere until either someone in authority tells me to go home or I find that I can't hold up my end of a given situation anymore. Sounds crazy but that's the way I feel about it! Folks who believe in doing the right thing only die once while cowards die many times. Somewhere along the way, I decided that I was only going to die just one more time. I now have increased focus, fear no man and it feels great! The first marriage gave me my two children. My son; Harry Lee Braxton, is a career NCO in the Air Force while my daughter; Auntris, is a social worker. Both are married and I'm an old gray haired grandfather. Because of the current War on Terror, my son now has more combat theatre time than I did! There were so many times around the world when I didn't think that I'd live long enough to see a grandchild. Jesus Christ has become my Lord and Savior and a few things have really changed along the way. I've finally grown up! While I can't dance like I used to when I only weighed about 95 pounds ( My weight at high school graduation!), I'm big enough(245+!)and strong enough to run crooks down and "thump" them if they need it. Chuck Norris really knows his stuff as far as physical fitness is concerned. If I could only get rid of this gut! My main hobby is high power rifle marksmanship. While I've no desire to ever kill a human again except to save someone else, I'd rather be the one to do it than have another deputy do it. In 2014, I'm either going to run for Sheriff or go home. If I win, I'd be the very first black elected to that position. It's a lot of responsibility and the only reason that I'd run is to prevent local liberal knotheads from abusing that level of power. I've been a REPUBLICAN since the Revolution of 1994; a very unpopular stand for black men anywhere.I'm living proof that not all REPUBLICANS are rich. However, I'm very happy! People shouldn't depend on government to fix self inflicted problems. My greatest victories in life are the ones that God helped me to win over cancer and alcohol. I changed the people, places, and things around me and things got better physically and psychologically. I didn't need the government to help me. Thank God! I'm a "recovering heathen" as far as my walk with God is concerned. Please don't be afraid to drop me a line as I'm just a man and the struggle to do the Godly thing is relentless. Satan never sleeps. We can't win the fight against him alone without Jesus and each other. I rewrote this profile to make sure that anyone interested could understand that I've had quite a ride through "THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY" with God's help! I'm willing to attend any reunion of any class of any school which I've attended or any organization which I've served in if I get an invitation. Memoriam lists have an ever growing number of my friends on them. GOD BLESS and don't forget that I'm in the Elizabethtown, Kentucky phone book!!

Receiving Knighthood of the Military Order of St. George upon my retirement in 1997. As this award was from my peers. it means a lot. St. George is the patron saint of the CAVALRY SCOUT and other mounted warriors.
My First Brand New Cruiser - 1999 Ford Crown Vic. Serving since 1997! If someone had told me back in 1969 that I would be a lawman in the SOUTH and that I'd like it, I'd have told them that they were crazy! Picture THIS guy as a MODERN DANCER!
